@Laharlee: What's wrong with not dating? Aren't there real life examples of organisations/orders which do not allow members to date? As for Gendry, his fate is totally different in the book. But the producers of the show don't do anything without consulting George first...so their eventual fate will be pretty similar I guess.

I notice everyone says "I want" this family to be the ruler over Westeros etc. Obviously George doesn't care what you want, so I hope people will make a forecast on who rules in the end, instead of what kind of fairy tale ending they want. The Martells haven't shown up in the TV series yet so those who haven't read the books will have to wait.

I find them equally lame, just like I compared JE to the Night Watch, it's what I think so...

I don't find anything wrong with desiring x or y family to rule either, it's just wishful thinking...

I can't wait for next season either, can't wait to see the dragons get bigger. I also wonder what Arya and Bran's story will lead to in the end, Bran's especially since I wonder where it will lead, I always assume to help them against the white walkers.

I'm a little ahead of the storyline than the TV show due to reading the books, (I guess I'm into what would be considered as Season 5 of the show) but with the way the storyline is continuing you never know who is going to be on the Iron Throne at the end of the story. It could be a hero, it could be a villain, or it could be someone we never expected from the beginning? What if Hodor suddenly revealed he had royal heritage and he was able to speak proper English all along? That would definitely be a sudden change of plot XD

I started with GoT when season 2 just came out, then I started reading the books. Currently up to date, finished the books and know enough about season 4 (is that the current one?) from tumblr spoilers lol.

Personally, I don't enjoy the show. They added a bit too much boobs-rape-cruel death that wasn't in the books, and left out important and interesting characters.

I don't read the books, and I know no spoilers, so for me, it's only the TV show as it is right now.

And I have the following to say about that:

In the beginning, it was great. Primarily because there were a handful of large primary plotlines going on, and a few handful of sub-plots going on (of various degrees of importance). However, now in season 5 (and this was largely the case with season 4 as well), there's too many characters, too many things happening, too much of everything! And they have just 50-some minutes per episode, and there's just 10 episodes per season. This makes for an awkward and seriously disconnected flow. It's so hard to get into it, because as soon as you see some scene, it's over, and then maybe you'll get to see another 5 minutes of it a good few episodes later.

I remember G.R.R.M being so shocked with Walter White's progression and development in Breaking Bad, even referring to him as a "monster", and how he would have to make up for it with the next season (I believe the fifth - which is the current season) of Game of Thrones, because somehow it seems he cannot allow another show to have the most brutal and darkest character to have ever been on a TV screen. To me it sounds a little childish, having to refit your story somehow because someone else did something you wish you had all along. I am not sure what will happen in the show, or what G.R.R.M is referring to, but - and I say this knowing Breaking Bad is a vastly different show than Game of Thrones - if there was anything Breaking Bad had, it was continuity, flow, and amazing story and character development.

Right now I am seeing weaknesses after weaknesses with Game of Thrones. It is really becoming quite obvious how it's not at all comparable to a show like Breaking Bad in terms of quality/writing/etc. I think the show suffers because of too few episodes in each season, and with too much content, which gets chopped down and made to fit each of the 50-some minutes long episodes they have. It's a pity.

Amusingly Breaking Bad imo lost it when they had too many characters and things going on. It was at it's best the first couple of seasons when it was just focused around the central two characters and how far they will go to make money. When we had the chicken guy and the Mexican cartels, the cop brother in law, kleptomaniac sister in law, those other guys with the bug spraying scam and everything else it got too slow.

GoT this season really feels that way it's halfway through the season and nothing has happened at all.

I'll put it like this: When it comes to games, movies, and series, I am fine with violence, torture, sadism, dark stuff from beginning til end. Because it's fantasy. Because it's not real. So yeah of course, in real life, I want there to be peace, happiness, etc. All of these things.

But when I watch Game of Thrones, I find it to be comparable to a cheap and poorly made porn movie. At least it has become that, from season 4, and especially now in season 5. The things that happen in this series, are so blatantly obvious and in your face for the sake of being in your face, that it's just excruciatingly painful. Not because what happens in the series is somehow super-engaging. No. It's just cheap. Laughably cheap. If they want to be dark, at least do it right. This is far too predictable.

Juandalyn, I am close to thinking the same as you. But having seen half of season 5 now, it's so hard to just stop cold turkey, because it feels like I have done this all for nothing. But really, this show isn't even good anymore.

God damn George R. R. Martin is a weak writer.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, just one thing to add, it's not anything close to the books anymore. The show is written by David Benioff and D.B.Weiss (D&D). The books are actually quite enjoyable (at least not as friggin cheap, there's many shock effects but bad things happen after bad decisions, not just for the shock).

But yeah, the last two seasons were very painful to watch. Some things that really bothered me that were completely different in the books under the spoiler... (that's going to the most recent episode and book):

Spoiler

I guess this show will stay with me as a friend of mine keeps on watching it, she sees it like you, Krusha, at some point it just feels like you've gotta go to the end instead of quitting it halfway. That friend keeps me up to date, and I guess I'm the only person that wants to listen to her rants lol (I'm really ok with that, a rant every now and then opens the heart or something). But yeah, I'd like to pretend this show was not more than 3 seasons.

Thanks for the comparison between the books and the show up til now :)

So, since I don't read the books, I can at least say that Benioff and Weiss are doing a piss-poor job with the last two seasons. No doubt...

This.

Honestly I know adaptations never always follow the books completely but there's a lot you're missing out on if you don't read them and just watch the show.

I've been disappointed so far with this season, I mean where the heck is Bran it's been 6 episodes now and nothing about him and his whereabouts, though he's featured a lot in the last book.

Spoiler

A shame, but you can't have everything go the way you want. XD

But by all means for those that haven't read the books, please do!

Bran's storyline was way ahead to be included in this season, or something like that, that's why he won't be in this season, I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere before the season started.

Season 5 onwards spoilers

Idk I'm liking it. I think it's unfair to compare it to BrBa, and mind you BrBa was my jam and I think it's a 10/10 in everything super bias lol, but GoT has always had a bazillion of characters and a "The Wall-->Winterfell-->Khaleesi-->King's Landing-->etc". The first seasons had more of a straight line, but because the character have evolved a lot and are now not in just one fraction, but are more around the world doing their thing. I find that interesting, dunno. Some things could be better, but I guess I don't mind, though I kinda get why people would complain. With characters like Theon or Sansa, I don't mind the changes they've made, they even explained why they took this route with Sansa. I'm more like "it's probably going to happen sooner or later", but these characters have become too popular so I can get why they want to hmm make their final development longer. Even with Theon. I mean I'm sure all this Sansa torture will give us a badass Sansa, and ofc if not I'll be meh about it. I haven't read the books though, but I remember feeling like that when I read The Lord of the Rings after watching the movies, and they left a lot out ofc because it's super long, and has characters that in the end even if I read about them like in 20 chapters, didn't add anything really relevant to the story. And considering they know the ending, I don't mind if they keep making things interesting.

For the first time in a long time, Game of Thrones got actually really awesome. 508 was quite fun to watch, and I really want more of that, but who knows where they will continue with the next two episodes. Also, I have no idea how many seasons we'll have left of Game of Thrones. One season, as in season 6? Two more? Three?

Yeah, while I don't mind the previous pace this was like OMG GOT. I wasn't as interested in Jon Snow but ever since the start of the season I grew into liking him a lot, and now his storyline is like one of the most interesting ones.
