I think people don't realize how lenient H!P and UFA are about the dating rule. As opposed to other agencies they let their older idols date freely as long as it's not public. Even here they knew about it but didn't care until it was leaked by a tabloid. Back in the day H!P even let a couple members with scandals (Miyabi is the one that comes to mind) continue on. Their OG group featured many idols that were dating or even married, and they still treat those girls well. Even with Sayuki, she'll still be employed by the agency and given opportunities for solo work. It's not like she's being dumped entirely like some idol agencies do.

From all I read and can remember, it seems the low ranked 48 members gets the same consideration as kenshusei in hp, except they are full time.
For the HP members in a group it seems they are fairly well compensated, especially when you compare the vast amount of difference and sales o

When you compare the vast difference un sales of 48/46 members.

I hope this is the right place to make this inquiry.

Awhile ago I read an interview with Ohori Megumi (AKB Early Gen) where she discussed idol salaries.  Beyond that it was one of the saddest things anyone could read (the gist was, the difference in salaries between Senbatsu girls and Theater girls was so vast that she often lived on a single 400 yen meal a day--which was verified indirectly on one of the pre-Bingo/Bingo episodes where Sata went through her purse and found 80 yen off coupons for bentos) it made me wonder how, if at all, Up Front compensates Morning Musume for their work.

If anyone could point me in the direction of past discussions on this topic, or has reliable insights, I'd greatly appreciate it.  I would like to think that the group we draw so much collective enjoyment from is compensated in some objectively fair way--and that it simply isn't a "the work is its own reward" scenario where real compensation (dollars and cents, or yen and sen in this case) is shadowed by the "intangible" benefits of celebrity.  Thank you for your replies!

(Also, thank you Angel for the clip!)

I remember based on tax records that back in 2010 (when MM was selling 40k copies per single and AKB48 1m+ per single) Morning Musume's most tenured members were making only slightly less than what AKB48's top members were making. UFA is known for treating and paying it's idols well, although it's based on tenure, so one would presume that the salaries right now are pretty low in comparison to 10 years ago given all the new groups and idols debuting.

I know C-ute had a large following of teenage/young adult fans because their music/lyrics were more aimed at that audience. I wonder if that will carry over to Airi's solo career. She's obviously not going for the idol thing any more. I hope she has a lot of success.

Nozomi also said she wanted her daughter to graduate high school and then decide if she wanted to be an idol. Based on the instas of her and her husband it seems their kids live a very normal life. But I'm sure there's other Musume legacies that are age appropriate. I wonder if there will ever be one...
