Officially announced on August 23, 2017 this is an idol project stemming from Project aW, a collaboration between avex and WACK to be managed/produced by Watanabe Junnosuke, manager/producer of BiS, BiSH, & GANG PARADE. The group was revealed on stage at the BiSH event "TOKYO BiSH SHiNE3". Their faces and identities were originally concealed with a goal for each member to reach 10,000 followers on Twitter before being officially unveiled. YUiNA was the first one to reach that goal and eventually unmasked, however, it was determined that the majority of those followers were bought and added through a computer generated system by a fan or group of fans. Watanabe Junnosuke, manager of EMPiRE, then decided to discontinue the original goal and the remaining members would be revealed at the discretion of the management. On September 28, 2017 the group's official Twitter account tweeted a notice of an announcement for 20:00 JST. Hours later at that intended time a tweet was sent out revealing all faces of the members of the group.

CY8ER is a "New Age DJ & Vocal Unit" and was formerly known as BPM15Q which consisted of executive producer Rinahamu (Rina Yokoyama) and DJ nicamoq. BPM15Q was active from June 2015 until December 2016 when nicamoq decided to discontinue activities right before the reformation of the unit into CY8ER. She stated that the split had nothing to do with anything negative and Rinahamu publicly notified her that she is welcome to work with her anytime and she will always have a place to call home with her. It was on November 14, 2016 when BPM15Q held their second one-man live at Shibuya eggman. During the live, two masked idols performed with Rinahamu and nicamoq.

On December 20, 2016 it was revealed that Tokyo based DJ, Koinumaru Pochi, had joined CY8ER as a new member and that she was one of the masked girls at BPM15Q's second one-man live. The next month on January 19, 2017 ex-DEEP GIRL member, Mashiro Suzukawa, was revealed to be the fourth masked girl and new member of CY8ER. The trio's first single「リミックスタート」("Remix Start"), produced by Yunomi, was officially released on March 18, 2017. The coupling song on the single titled「ゆびきり」("Yubikiri") [which means "pinky promise"] was written by nicamoq and served as a sort of farewell but also a wish to see her friends again. The song was produced by Page Hiiragi. The music video for their second single「手と手」("Hand In Hand"), also produced by Yunomi, was uploaded to YouTube on March 31, 2017 and the CD was officially released on April 18, 2017.

On April 25, 2017 at the Ichigo Soukai event an announcement was made along with a video that revealed the three newest members of CY8ER: Naatan Coromushi, Yamiyume yAmmy, and Anna Fujishiro (ex-member of ICE CREAM SUICIDE & BELLRING Girls Heart). Pochi had also switched her color from green to yellow, which was first seen in the「手と手」MV and Anna was then assigned the color green.
