It's a mainstream anime. Why did I call it mainstream? I think another title for Ranma should be Anything Goes Martial arts. Everyone in that show has and knows martial arts. Each characteristics and talents of the characters are the martial arts itself. Tea preparation is a martial art, eating is martial arts, painting and cooking is martial arts, everything is martial arts. I think, IMO, Ranma is one anime that pioneers this kind of trend in other manga/anime.
For the newer mangas/animes, the characteristics of the person is where his/her moves are based of. Example will be the first Crush Gear anime. One character there is a billiard player so his machine is a billiard ball. One is a Chess player so his moves are chess based and the shaped of his machine is a pentagon. Battle B-daman is another anime that does this. One character is a COwboy, so his moves are the quick draw. One is like a scorpion so his moves are scorpion moves scuh as the sting or so, etc.
Ranma did a great job having this trend. It may not be the first one to do it, but it is one that made it the best.

My favorite character is Ranma, but specifically his female half. She has such a sizzling hot body! And I love how she takes full advatange of all the things you can get when you're a girl! Ahh, I would've done anything to have a body pillow with a half naked girl-type Ranma on it... /perverted thoughts
