Comp Specs

1.8ghz Core 2 Duo
1gb ram (upgraded to 3gb for another $45)
DVD+/-RW / CDRW drive
320gb SATA II hard disk
Vista Home Premium (upgraded to Vista Ultimate for free because of my MSDN subscription)
I have a $16 1gb flash drive plugged into the back just for ReadyBoost.
And I spent another $40 on a 4 port KVM switch, so the 3 computers at my desk can share the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
The graphics chipset is just an Intel i945G, but it runs Vista Aero great as well as almost all of my games, after figuring out how to manually install the latest driver, because the setup.exe refuses to install if you have an OEM motherboard. Before the update, every single 3D game crashed the system within minutes, probably explaining why it was so cheap.

Firstly, my old PC, and despite the low spec, still a really nice, fast (for what it does) and most importantly trouble free Computer.
Specs aren't going to be too detailed as I don't have all the info to hand and can't remember it all.
AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.6GHz processor
An Asus motherboard (have no idea which one offhand)
1.5GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6600 (256MB RAM)
250GB Samsung PATA hard drive
Benq DVD RW
Windows Home (Sorry guys but I do like this OS, I have thrown tons of software and hardware at it over the years and it always worked)
I use this fella for word processing, picture editing (using photoshop elements) and as a semi back up in case my main PC decides to die. In the 2+ years I have owned it I have had no problems with it though try using any modern games on it or hi resolution media and it has a heart attack It was formerly my main PC up until 2 weeks ago when I brought:
Intel C2D E6850 3.0GHz
ASUS P5GC-MX 1333FSB
3GB Crucial PC5300 RAM (1x2GB and 1x1 GB)
Nvidia GeForce 7300 256MB RAM (I actually got this for free, but thats a long story)
1xSamsung 160GB SATA Hard drive
2xSamsung 500GB SATA Hard drive
Samsung DVD RW
Windows Vista Home basic 32bit (Absolutely the weakest link in my system)
This is a HTPC and it runs nice and quiet but Vista is still giving me hell with lots of different things.
Any comments on either of my PC's are welcome but please be gentle, I'm still not sure if my new PC has the best components I could have chosen as I still have a lot to learn.

I'm not surprised by your first rig,one of my friend has an old sempron 2400+ on the good'ol socket A and he still uses it with a gig of ddr333 and a agp Radeon HD 3850(yes it does exist),besides Semprons lasts longer and performs better than a crappy overpriced celeron
and also amd rocks

Why did you choose to go with 2x 8600GTS's, instead of a single 8800GT or GTS?

Still undecided on what motherboard to pair up the QX and these babies.
better more multi-monitors usage, more graphic processing power.Orn, I'm just a bit curious, so I have to ask...

I guess it makes sense if you want to use 3 monitors for browsing, etc (can't use more than 1 monitor in SLI though), but the "more graphic processing power" statement doesn't make sense to me....

you might want to read up on SLI
http://en.wikipedia...._Link_Interface
It says on that page that "Currently, all SLI configurations work only with a single digital video output."
You can't use SLI mode on multiple monitors. You can use multiple monitors with dual cards, but you have to turn off SLI.
I'm not trying to bag on Orn for making a bad decision (IMO), I'm just wondering why he went with two 8600GTS's. Maybe he had one at first, then decided to get another later? The 8800GT just destroys SLI'ed 8600GTS's in performance.
I mean, depending on what app you are using, a single 8800GT can be almost 2x as fast as dual 8600GTS's. A single 8800GT costs less than two 8600GTS's as well.
I don't want to start an argument or anything, I'm just curious...
