Fwiw- the article didn't say "she has to take a break from work" it said she doesn't have any work using her voice for a while, so she can probably get better soon.
Also, for the record, Japanese doctors prescribe IV drips for anything and or nothing. (Common cold? IV and then go back to work!) so don't worry about that part either.
Of course, I don't know what's wrong with her voice or throat, but nothing in the article is any worse than "lost her voice in a way she's not used to, and felt bad enough to go to a hospital. (That IS enough to be worried now that I think about it, but nothing to panic about)
What I've learned about Japanese so far, is that you must first pay attention to these 2 things:
Rule #1 and
Context. After that, just pray they remember their high-school English class.
