Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a world that is home to humans, fantastic animals, and spirits. Human civilization is divided into four nations: the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Each nation has its own natural element, on which it bases its society. Furthermore, people known as Benders have the power and ability to control and manipulate the eponymous element of their nation using the physical motions of martial arts.

This has got to be one of the best action adventure cartoons ive ever seen in the west. I know this isnt anime from japan but its still anime(tion) thats heavily inspired by various asian and some native american cultures. At first i just blew it off as a sad attempt at making a anime style show to make money but the more i watched it the more i liked this show. great writing and great animation kept me watching until the last episode. i loved how deep and human these characters were. no one was perfect and every single one of them carried extra baggage with them. IMO this show could go up against some of the most popular anime series in japan and blow them out of the water.

The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra

it looks like they really stepped up their game with this one. the animation is just amazing.

A You Duo

19 August 2008 - 10:56 PM

26-year-old A You Duo is a hometown girl from Southeast Guizhou. Unbearably cute, with a voice sweet as honey and a huge dose of stage charisma, self-made A You Duo is stealing the hearts of young and old, and making the Miao of China proud. A You Duo, it becomes clear, has grown up around music. As a child, she woke to her mother's singing of sad songs in the morning. When she went to school, she learned pop songs and sang them back to her mother to cheer her up. After she graduated from middle school, she stopped schooling and joined the ranks of so many young Chinese from the countryside who have left their villages to seek income elsewhere. She managed to get a job in Beijing where she learned some of her singing and dancing. She then spent several years moving around, following opportunities, mostly working as a waitress in a series of establishments in Guizhou and Shenzhen. Through this work, she met managers who were willing to let her sing in their restaurants for higher pay. In 1999, she entered a singing contest in Guizhou and won first prize. Her reputation skyrocketed. She got a job at the Kaili Song and Dance Troupe and then tested into Beijing Teacher's College for higher music education. And her popularity kept growing. As soon as she began to be recognized A You Duo stopped singing mainstream pop songs. She now sings in both Mandarin and the Hmu dialect of Miao. Belting out songs themed to her special identity, she has won prize after prize, even in national level competitions. Her most distinguished accomplishments include the First Chinese New Artists International Competition Gold Medal for Pop Music, the Chinese Nationalities Song Competition Best New Folk Singer Prize, and a performance at Vienna's Golden Hall.

"When I used to sing pop I wasn't moved at all," she recalls. "But when I sing Miao songs it comes naturally and I can express my inner feelings as if they were flowing from my veins."

Supernatural

11 May 2007 - 02:52 PM

Great show! Anyone else watches it?

The show follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who travel across the country in a black 1967 Chevy Impala investigating and combatting paranormal events and other unexplained occurrences, many of them based on American urban legends and folklore as well as classic supernatural creatures such as vampires and ghosts.

plot(got off wiki)

When Sam Winchester was an infant and his brother Dean was four years old, their mother, Mary, was murdered on November 2, 1983 (All Souls' Day in the Roman Catholic Church). Her husband, John, saw blood dripping onto Sam's cradle, looked up, and found his wife pinned to the ceiling, her midsection sliced open. A moment later, she burst into flames. John told Dean to take baby Sam outside and made a desperate and futile attempt to save his wife while the house was consumed by flames.

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester. After a psychic told John that a demon was responsible for Mary's death, he became obsessed with finding and destroying it. He trained his sons to recognize and defend themselves against paranormal entities. Sam and Dean became resourceful sleuths and experienced fighters as they assisted their father in his quest to destroy dangerous creatures and find the demon that had killed Mary; however, Sam chafed against the lifestyle his father chose for him, eventually falling out with his father and leaving to live a "normal" life. He attended Stanford University on a full scholarship and lived with his girlfriend, Jessica, in an apartment near campus. But when Dean appears one night during the autumn of his senior year, bearing the news that their father has gone missing while on a "hunting trip," Sam reluctantly agrees to help Dean look for their father.

Theres gonna be a comic book series too.

The series explains how John Winchester raises his children, Sam and Dean, to become "Hunters" of spirits and demons.

Sheki-Dol (シェキドル)

24 February 2007 - 12:48 PM

I honestly had no idea that they exsisted! I saw a pv and i can honestly say that i like their music.(or at least the pv) Old school in your face stuff unlike the stuff they have today.

The group was formed in 2000 and consisted of Kitagami Ami and Oki Ibuki. The two had participated in the same audition that Matsuura Aya participated in and eventualy won. In 2001 Suenaga Mami joined the group making it a threesome. Later that year Oki Ibuki left the group and Arai Saki replaced her.

Sheki-Dol was disbanded in January of 2002, after having released only four singles. The official reason was that one of its members needed medical attention. It was later discovered that Mami had become pregnant.
