I thought it would be funny to translate their name in both ways (meaning and phonetic). So you can easily get what it's kun'yomi and what's on'yomi. (Kanji, Mandarin, Meaning, Japanese)

Actually, a few others and myself have translated some of their chinese names into pinyin over at mm-bbs. So if you want you can check it out there.

Why don't the Taiwan website just used the name "Sayumi" ? They can have all the words in Chinese and then their names in alphabet.

It wouldn't really help, I guess. Cause the main language used in Taiwan is Chinese, thus most stuff has been translated into Chinese.


Also, because Sayumi's name isn't in Kanji, they tried to reproduce their names phonetically in Chinese instead. However, for some others like Yoshizawa Hitomi whose name is written in Hiragana, they used the available Kanji for it (note that Melon Kinenbi's Saitou Hitomi's name is written in Kanji).

So I'm guessing that they'd use anything that is available to them, to switch into Chinese.

I've only started watching the PVs of AKB48 2 days ago and I can't get their songs out of my head! It's just so catchy and I really like Miyazawa Sae.

Oh and, I came across this video while browsing through Veoh just now. It's split into part 1 & 2. In Part 2 there's a short preview of Bingo! at 3:55, that they've performed in a concert (not sure which one it is.. can anyone confirm?)

Not really, it means 'beauty' which you only use for women. 哈密瓜 is hami melon. So that 哈密瓜紀念日 means hami melon memorial day or hami melon day. It does't sound like a music band from the beginning.

Yes, and to translate 美人纪念日, it would be something like Beauty Memorial Day or Bi Jin Ki Nen Bi. So support me and protest of a change from 哈密瓜紀念日 to 美人纪念日!

Well I think that shayoumei sounds.. eekish. Like how Melon Kinenbi is translated into 哈密瓜纪念日.

I would've preferrred it if they'd translated Melon into 美人 instead, since the pinyin for it is Mei Ren and it sounds like Melon IMO.
