Did Kyouka leave the band? They're on tour and she's posting from Hawaii. Looks like she isn't featured on their website anymore either.

^ The funny thing about that is, when they went to San Francisco, they showed that movie with English subtitles but when it was actually released on DVD, there wasn't any English subtitles. Maybe I got my dates mixed up or maybe the establishment in SF made their own subtitles, but I always wondered why the DVD didn't have it even though there already was one.
I first heard them when they played SF. They put on a great show. If I had known them before, I would've checked out the movie. I'm sorry I missed it. And it is weird that Japanese companies don't release English subtitles, even if they do exist. Guess they're not counting on a lot of overseas sales.

I don't get why they can't be non-Idol or whatever and still release good, funky music with the Royal Mirrorball sound. It wasn't stale. But this dance trash they're doing these days is so underwhelming. The songs never reach a climax AT ALL... Water Lily and Predawn are both like that. And the regular version of Shinkai was a snoozefest too.
Money.
I have no idea what their sales are but being idols gives them opportunities to earn more - if they have been selling poorly they probably made no money at all.
Makes sense. But I'm still seriously confused by whoever is in charge of their direction. It makes no sense at all...
Their music is so iconic and important to me, so I hate to see the group going in such a confusing, uninspired direction. And the girls aren't getting any younger, so I'm nervous about the near future.
I also am more of a fan of their earlier, funky style. My guess is they were going for a more mature sound. I played them for some friends who weren't into J-Pop and they thought they sounded like the Jackson 5. Still, I thought it was a great sound.
And while I'm not a fan of the new direction, I will say Predawn is one of their better songs. Not as good as their older stuff, but pretty close.
