In Topic: How did you discover Morning Musume.

23 January 2005 - 08:01 AM

like many others, i had known of momusu's existence for a few years, but never really checked them out. one fateful day, before my anime club's showing, one of the club officers started to show one of their PV. I was like, "hmm, a LOT of girls singing and dancing. they must be morning musume. they're kinda cute ..." I didn't think much after that even though i immediately liked the song (note: it's rare for me to like a song after the first listening), but i did pay more attention to them when they appeared on Hey!X3 (which I get locally).

last year, i became really bored with contemporary american music. there are times when i think the music out there plain sucks, so i stop listening to it all together. so i start listening to an internet j-pop station at work. one day out of the blue, they played the song for the PV mentioned above, and i was like, 'hey, i remember that song! it's really good." so i checked out the station's website to find out the name of that song: "As For One Day".

i decide to investigate momusu's music and come across the Best! 1 album and started to listen to it. it didn't have the song i was looking for, but i wanted to see what their best songs were like. however, i didn't come away impressed after the first few casual listens. so, i kept them on the backburning until i stumbled across PMMT while looking for some DAI videos. i saw a torrent for Ayaka's English Lessons being posted (by Segasonic I believe) so i download it after reading all of the good comments. anyone who has watched the lessons knows how great and funny they are. after getting as much of the lessons i could find and being entertained by their personalities, i decided to give their music one more chance.

i gave Best! 1 a few more listens and ended up liking it, so i decide to buy it along with the Best! 2, which was being released at that time (even without knowing any of the songs on it except for "As For One Day"). after some downloads and purchases later, you can say that i'm officially hooked on this thing called Morning Musume.

"Chance!" -- Yaguchi Mari regarding Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's seperation in her radio show (Anatagairukara Yaguchi Mari 2005-01-09)

hmmm, i wonder if Mari was able to get Brad's phone number when she interviewed him for the "Troy" movie promo.

I don't think Brad realizes how lucky he was ...

Surprised noone mentioned this title yet:
- Grave of the Fireflies

you know, i had heard so much about this movie and how depressing it is. when i finally did watch it, i didn't think it was really sad or anything.

this coming from someone who likes to watch dark and depressing stuff.

not a sad anime overall, but there is one episode of Fruits Basket where we learn of Hatori's past. when they showed that episode at my anime club, lots of people were crying at the end.

I only have a small percentage. Probably about 5% or so. Here's a list of what I have purchased (so far that ...) because it's not a whole lot:

Best! Morning Musume 1 & 2
The Early Singles Box
Morning Musume 2005 calendar
Spring 2003 Non-Stop! Concert DVD (great concert)
H!P All Stars single (really wish I had gotten the limited edition booklet)

I have been thinking about my next purchases though. Forget to include MM's 5th album in my last order from cdjapan but I think I can buy it locally. I've also had my eye out on Ishikawa's new PB. I want to get the single for "As For One Day" but I'm afraid Tsunku & Co will release another boxset of singles.
