AKB48's Mariko Shinoda (24) is making her big screen debut with a starring role in the omnibus movie "Inu to Anata no Monogatari: Inu no Eiga." The movie is a sequel to the 2005 film "Inu no Eiga," which tells various stories about people and their dogs.

Shinoda's story is a comedy piece titled "Aikenka wo Tazunete ~ Orikou." She plays a dog lover named Sudo, who appears on television when her dog is featured as a "genius" that can answer any of her questions. However, she attempts to prove its abilities in a surprising way.

Although the idol has appeared in a few television dramas before, this is her first time with a major role. She stated that she was initially very nervous on the set, but she enjoyed the fact that there were many cute dogs. Shinoda herself is a dog lover in real life and has two dogs, a 2-year-old toy poodle and a 1-year-old Maltese.

"Inu to Anata no Monogatari" is set for release on January 22.

Never even noticed that her thumbs were shorter than usual before. Oh well, if it doesn't affect Megan Fox then it shouldn't matter for Mariko either.

AKB48 member Shinoda Mariko (24) is getting her own television show on NHK, starting this spring. The show is called “Mariko-sama no Orikou-sama!” (Wednesday nights, 1:05am-1:10am) and will be a collaboration with the documentary show “NHK Special” (Sundays, 9:00pm).

The show will involve Shinoda providing concise explanations for keywords related to the themes of the “NHK Special” episodes, covering common knowledge from economic growth to genetics to the statute of limitations. Using illustrations and videos, she will present the keywords in a simple and entertaining manner, spending only about 30 seconds on each explanation. Viewers will be able to submit explanations for Shinoda’s approval through the show’s website.

During the press conference for the show held on Wednesday, Shinoda admitted that she has never watched “NHK Special” before, but she expressed her pleasure at now having an opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics that she currently has little knowledge of.

A special program to commemorate the show will air from 1:45am to 1:55am on the night of March 11, and submissions for explanations will be accepted starting on March 12. The show will begin its regular broadcasts on April 6.

Re-runs will air on NHK Educational (Sundays at 11:55pm) and on NHK’s 1-seg 2 channel.

Mariko's 25 today (in Japan at least) which some may have said was the age when female idols are done, but somehow I feel like she's got a few more years left yet. Besides, she's got so many other things going on outside of AKB....

Still though, it'd be interesting if she could get center position in a single or a solo single before she graduates.

Kind of unfortunate for the 8.8 quake to hit on Mariko's birthday. Regardless, hope everyone is safe.

As someone who's birthday happened the same day as another terrible Japanese earthquake (Kobe), I can sort of imagine the feeling but this one was so much worse, so maybe I can't?

Also I just noticed Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta Ep 9 didn't air on Monday, but it's gonna air on the 21st. With everything in Japan I understand why it was moved.
I want to watch it.
