Yui Aragaki's New School Year Pocky Message

Japanese Entertainment
Hmmm... I haven't made a post that goes into the "Japanese Entertainment" category, so I'll make one now.

Ever since Asami Konno graduated from Hello! Project, I've been looking for someone in Hello! Project to replace her as my favorite member. Unfortunately, I just never really became that big of a fan of the other members. To this day, I'm still not quite sure why. Hello! Project is filled with good-looking people that have interesting personalities, but I just never got interested in any of them like I did with Konno. I still love Hello! Project, but I'm not really a big fan of any particular member. If anything, I'd say my "favorite" member is Hitomi Yoshizawa, since she's the captain of Gatas Brilhantes H.P.

(Junjun has really caught my attention, though. I just wonder what kind of personality she'll have once she's on Haromoni@ and other shows. I'm gonna start calling her Chun or something... Junjun sounds too funny.)

Since I really didn't have a favorite member, I became less fixated on Hello! Project, and I started noticing other celebrities in the J-Entertainment world. I started listening to music and watching dramas, movies, and TV shows that didn't include Hello! Project members. It really opened my eyes A LOT. I never realized just how many good-looking people there are outside of Hello! Project. Erika Toda, Satomi Ishihara, Masami Nagasawa, Yui Ichikawa... This list could just go on and on for a very long time.

I still haven't forgotten about Konno, but I found some new people to become fans of. One of which was named in the title of this post:

YuiAragaki... What can I say? I'm a fan. She's just so cute. I guess I really started noticing her when I was watching My Boss My Hero. Cute girls always catch my eye, but I felt compelled to find more information about this one. That eventually led me to some of her other TV appearances: Koisuru Hanikami, Matthew's Best Hit UV, various commercials, and various skits on a variety show. (I can't quite remember the name right now.)

I'm sure that those that know Yui Aragaki know that she has been recently doing a lot of stuff for Pocky. Within the past year or so, she has done three commercials for Pocky, all of which have used Orange Range's "Dance2" song. She also has a blog and some video messages on their site.

I love the Pocky commercials, but I can't help but wonder why I never have that much fun while I'm eating Pocky. When I copy what she does, I have a little fun, but not that much. :P As expensive as that stuff is, it should come with music and a bunch of people who admire you when you do silly dances with sticks of Pocky.

Anyway, like I said before, there are some video messages on the Pocky web site. Seeing as how I am near completion of my first semester of Japanese and filled with excitement about the possibility of translating Japanese to English, I decided to try to subtitle one of the video messages. At first, I tried the Golden Week one, but I couldn't quite figure out what she was saying. So, I tried the "new life" one. After hours of working on a 35-second clip, I finally came up with something that I feel is good enough to present to everyone. So here it is:

Aragaki Yui - Shinseikatsu Ouenhen (English Subtitles).avi

This file is hosted on the web space provided by my ISP, so feel free to spread the link around. A link back to my blog and some credit would be nice, too.

It's kind of pointless, but it's cute, and it gave me some practice.

I am nowhere near 100% sure of my translation. I'm sure that there are things that I misheard or misinterpreted. Since part of the reason why I'm doing this to help myself learn Japanese, here are the scripts that I came up with (In case anyone would like to help me make it more accurate):

Here's what I heard (Sorry, haven't learned kanji yet):
Edit: The Japanese text got a little messed up... Does anyone know why?

(First voiceover)
ポッキンナ ベイベー
ポッキ

(Second voiceover)
しがつから しんせいかつを はじめるみなさん
あたらしい かんきょうで まず たいせつなのは にんげん かんけい
あたらしい であいの きっかけに

(Aragaki's voiceover)
ポッキって だれかに はなしかけたい ときの きっかけ つくりに ぴったり
はるから はじまる しんせいかつの ともに ぜひ ポッキは どうぞ

(Visible Aragaki)
ポッキ たべる
どうぞ
どうぞ どうぞ えんりょしないでください
どうぞ おいしいですよ
どうぞ はい えんりょしないで
えんりょしないでください

(Aragaki's second voiceover)
ハロー ニュー フレンド
ポッキ

Here's how I translated it:

(First voiceover)
Pocky na baby!
Pocky!

(Second voiceover)
To everyone entering a new school in April:
When entering a new environment, it is important to think about human relationships.
When you have a chance to meet someone new...

(Aragaki's voiceover)
If there is someone you want to talk to, Pocky is the perfect way to start a conversation.
Definitely offer Pocky to a new friend in a new school this Spring.

(Visible Aragaki)
Would you like some Pocky?
Here you go.
Go ahead. Don't be shy.
Come on. It's delicious.
Sure. Don't hold back.
Just take some.

(Aragaki's second voiceover)
Hello New Friend!
Pocky!

Anyway, I hope people enjoy the video. Who knows... Maybe I'll start doing some more translations. :P

the skit show is called "Rakka Onna", and Gakkii was definitely fantastic in it (says the guy who was watching it just because of her appearance :D)
(Whoops... Accidentally hit the Make Draft button, causing the timestamp of my blog post to be set to today.)

Aaahh... So that's the name of that show. Now that I think about it, I never knew the name of the show. :D Thanks for helping me with that. Now, I can go find some more.

I love how they seem to do the skits in one take. Many times, Aragaki starts laughing in the middle of the skits, which makes them even more enjoyable to watch. I agree, she was fantastic in it. (I'm probably a little biased, too)

I'm sure you know the "Nyanto! Love Ring" segments... I know Yui Aragaki and Shizuyo Yamasaki, but I don't know who the other girl is. Do you know who she is?
I think they did it with few female guests, so there are probably more versions...but except gakkii and shizu-chan, the only female regular was An Sayuri...maybe thats who you mean (she is cute too, but not as cute as gakkii :D)
The ones that I saw had the same people, but I've only seen two. So, there's probably a bunch that I haven't seen yet. She is cute, but I'm not really interested... I just wanted a name to match with that face. Thanks again! :D
one of my favourite. have you seen her dorama..? very nice..
-my boss my hero is actually my recomendation.
-galcir [gal circle]. she's pretty here. and you mentioned erika toda. she's the main character here. also there's yaguchi mari and emi suzuki.
-dragon zakura. also masami nagasawa here
I absolutely loved My Boss My Hero. It's one of my all-time favorite dramas. The story was very refreshing during a time when I was getting really bored with school dramas. Of course, Gakki was great too. XD

I've seen a little bit of both Galcir and Dragon Zakura. I never really set aside time to watch them, but they seemed interesting enough. Maybe I'll watch more episodes during the summer.

I should say that I'm not really a fan of the girls that I mentioned in that short list. I was just trying to show how much I've ignored the entertainment world outside of Hello! Project.
