Perfume ranks on SPIN magazine’s ‘20 Best Pop Albums of 2011′
http://www.spin.com/...s-2011?page=0,1
The writer explains:
“Just as shiny, but not remotely as nuanced, as the art-hop robo-bop bouillabaisse popping off in neighboring Korea, Japanese pop trio Perfume still strike hard thanks to a monolithic, overblown maximalism. Third albumJPN is a neon-blinking wash of clinical synths and utopian melodies — perfectly punk in both the Daft and pop senses — a near-android gush of voices adrift in the ether and AutoTune so clinical that you could eat off of it. (CHRISTOPHER R. WEINGARTEN)
I'm glad that Perfume received a recognition from SPIN. Unfortunately I don't quite follow the writer's comment.
" perfectly punk in both the Daft and pop senses " What does it actually mean? Could anyone kindly explain this for me?

In my estimation, that's just a badly written paragraph where the author had to say something, didn't particularly have anything tangible to say, and used awkward words no one would ever use practically to cover that up. It basically says that it doesn't have the musical depth of K-pop, but is a solid record in its own right thanks to its thoroughly modern and methodical sound.
I disagree there's a lack of musical depth to Nakata's works, but clearly, it doesn't seem like this is coming from someone with any perspective of his works...to the point where he's probably heard Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's "PONPONPON," but didn't hear any connection between it and the album he just "reviewed."
The quote you pointed out, however, refers to Daft Punk and I assume the punk music mentality of not being conformed to certain styles. Best I can assume is it's a crappy way of saying, "A Daft Punk influenced album that doesn't tie itself to typical pop conventions."
I love the recognition from SPIN, but really dislike the blurb about it. It certainly wouldn't convince me to check it out.
