Well, changing the topic in this thread, I think MM will remain as 11 in 2019 but announcing new members near the end of the year to debut in 2020. I'm totally fine with that and I don't think managemet will add someone in the middle of the year, and don't wnant it either.

Whether or not it results in new members by 2020, I think it is likely that they'll have another audition specifically for MM that occurs throughout 2019.  With all of the new debuts, they'll probably want to add at least a few more trainees to replenish some of the numbers in the KSS and especially the HKSS if they want to keep that going as a separate entity.  It seems rather clever to have general auditions breaking up those advertised as being strictly for MM as a way to collect new trainees, but it can't be helped that Morning Musume's name would attract even more interest not only from those who wish to audition, but also the press who will cover the announcement of the audition, however briefly.  Having fewer MM-advertised auditions that the fans consider to be a dud might help ease frustrations in the future if that continues to be a trend. I just don't expect that the next audition will fail to add another generation.

 

Regarding Morning Musume's numbers, I think we can more predictively look at the average age of MM and compare it to historical trends to see what the office may be planning.  The vast majority of MM will be 20+ with several members turning 20 in 2019. Maria and Yokoyan will be 18. Even Akane will be 17 as early as March, and 18 by the time any audition winners would be officially included in the 2020 spring tour.  The last time we had a range like this was the platinum era, before half of the group's composition changed with mass graduations and two new gens.  It's now largely up in the air as to who will be staying or leaving in the next couple of years, and with the youngest members in 2019 being within H!P's historical upper-range, even the most recent generations will be above the usual average age range for MM, with some of them having already been in H!P for quite a long time by idol standards.  For a company that likes to keep familiar faces in the group for a long time, all of the available data points to it being likely that we may see mass graduations and several promoted younger KSS or audition winners joining the group with a healthy amount of space between their ages and Mizuki's.

 

Barring that, it becomes an increasingly likely possibility that we have another brief period where MM gets down to as low as 5 members before the group's size more than doubles as multiple generations are added in the same year, potentially as early as 2021.  Having a group with an average age of 22+ by that time suddenly being flooded with 11s-14s is a shock not felt since 2011.  I don't think the company would risk that since it goes against the model they'll have assumed by now is healthier for the stability of ticket and single sales, having a steady stream of new members even if it means stacking the group while several familiar faces still remain for twice-/yearly grad concerts.  I don't necessarily agree with the accuracy of that conclusion since the uptick in MM's and H!P's continued popularity also coincides with an economic recovery, but it is also fairly evident to them that steady auditions and yearly graduations have at least temporarily boosted interest for several H!P groups in the past several years.

 On the topic of new members, I'm completely fine with whatever goes down this year. Personally, I think it's time for a new big 4nin Gen in MM since it doesn't really feel like we've gotten a fresh new green Gen in quite some time. I feel like they will announce an MM audition in the first half of this year. However, if they decide to not add members this year, or the audition is prolonged until the end of the year, I think it would be nice for a change to have two 11nin singles in a row. MM hasn't had a consistent lineup for more than 1 single since 2014, so I think the stagnation would be nice just for this year, even if the second single ends up being a Graduation single (which I'm sure it will be).

Touching up on what Fallacia said, I do feel like we are entering another point in MM where they are letting the current girls get older and we're about to have multiple graduations back to back (It's kind of already begun, with Kudo, Ogata and Iikubo all happening back-to-back with 6 months in between). So I feel like maybe 15th Gen will be added in late 2019, and we could get 16th Gen one year later in fall 2020 with 4 members each. I'd say between the next 2 years we could also potentially lose 4 more girls as well.

That guy's German is so bad. Not only does he make lots of spelling mistakes but also his linguistic expression is so weak that it's quite clear he's rather uneducated.

I think it'll depend on how many members will graduate in 2019 so management decides how many girls will enter. It seems they want to mantain a 13-nin line-up, so if nobody graduates they'll likely just add 2. 

 

@miyooooons All the MM'15 had the same line-up, just to clarify that. I do want the MM'19 singles to be just for remaining 11, so I hope they don't add anyone until the the end of the year so they can debut in MM'20. But I don't want a big gen, I feel UFA can't properly mangae/promote them. So I think it's better to add 2 at max.
