Koharu the Health Nut: A Longstanding Passion

In light of KK's recent announcement that she'll be discussing Health and Food issues, I'm going to re-present one of my old forum postings that shows her interest in Health Care is not something pulled out of thin air but a genuine passion--maybe even obsession:

With all the talk about KK and hospitals, I went back to check on the broadcast of Usa-Chan Peace, considering how Sayumi is a little prone to exaggeration about KK. It was surprising to hear that the question itself that led to the hospital topic was really funny. Here’s my shot at it (man, Sayu talks fast):

Sayu [reading]: “Shige King” from Kumamoto province writes “If you became a vampire, which Musume member’s blood would you want to suck?”

Sayu: “Hehhhhhh? Well, it seems like her blood would be thin, but Reina Tanaka would be good. She’s really skinny and doesn’t look like she has much blood, so if you sucked her blood she’d probably get dizzy. But Reina likes to get (hypodermic) shots—she’s odd. I feel faint just at the thought of getting a shot, but Reina loves getting shots and doesn’t mind having her blood taken. We all get vaccinated so as not to get the flu or colds, but Reina thinks it’s really fun. It’s hard to believe since most people absolutely hate it. So I think the person who would most likely agree to a vampire sucking her blood would be Reina.

Who would hate it the most? Ehhh? It’s kosou [old?], but I think Eri would hate it.

After that . . . Koharu-chan is also . . . Koharu-chan is also really strange. She doesn’t like shots but that girl does like hospitals. She’ll go up the fire escapes at hospitals—it’s really odd—in a single day, three times to this or that hospital. When she gets a day off, she’ll make it a point to say, “Tomorrow, I going to the hospital! How fun!” Everyone views this is as odd. Well, Koharu is also health-conscious—that may also be why she likes hospitals, but she’s also always interrogating people: “Is this medicine safe? Is this hospital safe?” She’s very quick to suspect things. So I think she’d really hate it—because she wouldn’t want anything taken from her body, she’d really hate getting her blood sucked.”

This is but one example of her health konsciousness. After following every radio, magazine and TV interview KK has done, I've noticed that these issues have come up persistently, sometimes with an offhand observation about her diet, other times with a detailed description of how she gets up in the morning. (I'll try to post a collection of these somtime.) Over the past few months, I honestly thought that this might be a career direction she might take in the future; what's surprising is that she's engaging in what appears to be a relatively adult-oriented topic right now, at the same time she's on TV promoting toys, anime goods, and sugary sweet kiddie snacks that transform otherwise well-behaved children into glucose overdosing terrors (sound familiar? ). Seriously, though, I think it's a good balance that will enable her to transition smoothly out of the childrens' shows later as she gets older. Gambatte Koharu-chan!
