Graduation
Kusumi Koharu of Morning Musume “frankly, anxious” about her post-graduation career path
After auditioning Kusumi joined MoMusu in May 2005 as the 7th generation member. During those 4 years, “on Hello!Project and MoMusu tours, at any rate, I got the feel for doing a concert every week” she said. “When I think about it, not having interactions with the fans will be lonely,” she says sadly.
In 2006 she was selected to be the voice actress for the TV Tokyo anime “Kirarin Revolution” as the main character, Kirari Tsukishima. Although her workload only increased, with “of course small children, but even mothers and high school students calling me by my character name,” her popularity was boosted in an instant. Although the feeling that she was a hit “honestly, wasn’t there,” she says, “Even now it’s in my heart—I still love it.”
Fast forwarding through the four-and-half years that have elapsed to this September, her graduation was announced at the Momusu concert. Although producer Tsunku commented that “as her personal aspiration is to become a model, by taking aim in a new direction, she can to advance to take a new step,” Kusumi says, “The truth is, there isn’t one single thing decided upon to which I would definitely say, “I want to do this!”
To that end, the possibilities are unlimited. “From here I want to take on various challenges” and incidentally reveals her ambitions regarding the graduation announcement. With regard to modeling work, “Of course I’d like to try it,” or, for example, from indeed a completely different perspective, comedy work—“If given the chance, definitely I’d like to try”—she is without a pessimistic attitude.
Speaking of which, as a naturally airheaded character, “rather than ad-lib, somehow it would be easier to completely transform into the role” says, Kusumi, and to the suggestion “How about [becoming] a skit performer?” the nodding member said, “That would be great! To become an entertainer and perform on M-1 or R-1 would be even better!” and her agreement was impressive.
