The "gaunt" (perhaps I mis-chose my word, but might as well follow up on it) look I'm seeing could be an illusion created by her eye makeup. It makes her eyes look super big, and in concert with the particular, angular shape oi her face, this seems to augment a (perhaps illusive) sunken appearance. To me, anyway.
However, I suppose I was not looking very closely, and I guess I was thinking more about the other, more recent nude photos.
Still, I can't believe anyone can deny she's very thin these days (and by these days I mean at least since her last A-nation appearance--so for almost the past year), muscles or no. I don't think it's an aesthetic issue. She still looks great. She's just undeniably a lot skinnier than she ever has been, which worries me a little, although in a very off-center kind of way. More just curious if something's up. I am sure she'll be fine in the long run.
But I guess this is clearly off-topic for this photograph, since it is older. I apologize. |

these pictures are old guys why are you re-uploading these ones? People can hate or like whoever they want, I really like and support Maki's decisions the only thing I want for her it's she takes her own decisions and she's comfortable doing her job. Now I see it, Maki tried very hard in H!P she's was different from what she really likes to do. Now that she can do it, why not?
I've been watching some TV programs with the Old generations and I imagine the MM we have nowadays, being an idol is not as perfect as many people think... everything is only "poses" =(. |

^ ^ I think I see what you're saying, but I wouldn't worry about her based at least on this photo. Look at here collar bones and neck area for example. If she were really underweight, it would be obvious in that area. As it is, I think she would be considered thin in the US but I wouldn't worry about her health. In some of her more recent photos, I'd call her "lean" rather than "gaunt" or even "too thin". She's been putting on muscle, and her body fat percentage seems to be going down - but it looks healthy to me. But then I'm not her doctor.
As it is, she pretty much exemplifies the word "sexy" for me. |

I know, rigth? Also, Melon Kinenbi pulled a sexy image (I mean...look at Hitomi Saitou!). Sometimes I can't get people: they complain about sexy when they are adults but if they are teenagers, are praising their hotness in bikini shoots (which is not wrong, Koharu with her two last photobooks showed she could be sexy and suggestive without reach the vulgarity).
And yes, I'm aware that none besides Maki and Aibon tried the semi nude puctures, but even Nacchi has sexy pictures in their photobooks. Is just part of growing up as a woman. |

Again, please realize as well that Goto Maki is no longer being sold by H!P. She now sells herself through Rhythm Zone. And like someone else pointed out before, it's not only just NOW that Maki has "done sexy."
H!P isn't as innocent as some people think. |
