Doesn't matter, at least she tries much more than i can say for alot of people. She doesn't give up. And i have been to enough concerts to notice her singing is improving at least.

Her voice has improved a lot since she joined. It's gone from "Man, she gets paid to sing?" to "average for an idol, I suppose." The voice isn't impressive, but the improvement, especially at the concerts (as Erika2113 mentioned) IS quite impressive to me.
Her looks have also improved since she joined. She's gone from "average for an idol, I suppose." to "Dayamn, girl."
In my opinion, of course.

Well personally I appreciate sayu's imrpovement over the years, she may not be the best singer ( I don't think she has to be) but her voice to me sounds pretty unique ^_^ I think sayu is a really determined person.

Yeah I think Sayu is serious about her singing efforts. I don't think she's been like that all the way from the beginning though. But about 3 years ago she started to put more and more effort in her singing. To me it's very noticeable, specially in concerts.
And I'm probably on the minority here but her solo lines in SYO were my favourites.

She has improved majorly over the years.
Really, she's not the greatest singer in MM. She may not even be the best at all, for some people's opinions.
But she's cute and very likeable by fans, and her photobook bring in lots of $$. So even if her voice isn't great, she still gets the company lots of money. ;P

Okay, I am sick of the "i'd like to see you do better" comeback. Really? Sorry, but a lot of people can sing, but they aren't professional.
Sayu has a unique voice, but she isn't the best and I don't see her getting a solo career in her future. She'd be better in a duet group or something. :P She's cute, and she can sing, but not as good as Ai, Mikitty, or some of the other fantastic H!P singers. Tsunku chose her for a reason, and I think that reason is obvious.
Uniqueness counts obviously.

So true. The idols cover many areas with their singing, dancing, photos and other activities. Most Wota have a certain favorite idol, and may like them for other qualities than their talent at singing.
I will use Risako in Berryz as an example as I believe she and Sayumi are somewhat similar(I'm totally in love with Sayumi though). Risako seems to be super popular with many PB's and lines in the songs, but I can only see her as slightly cute at best, and IMO she is the worst singer and dancer in Berryz. So what are Tsunku and her fans seeing?
Not to start a flame war or anything. I do like Risako, but I feel she is somewhat overexposed compared to her relative talent, and somewhat "special" looks.

^I totally agree with you.
Personally I love Sayumi's voice and I enjoy it alot more than say Kusumi's voice (though I do like both of them) but alot more people enjoy Kusumi's more.
To each his/her own though

Someone said that she can't sing high notes. I suppose you haven't seen her live of Furusato which she sang in of the Morning Musume-concert. She hit the high notes perfectly and she sounded great. That live really made me like her, she's improved so much in everything!

Sayu's voice used to be like nails on a chalkboard for me, and I used to think she was irritating, but...to be totally honest, her voice, and Sayu herself, have really grown on me over the past few years to the point that now I really like her and her voice. And no one can say that Sayu doesn't try. She could just say, "Hey, I don't have the greatest voice, but I'm extremely cute and pretty, and in this business, that's good enough," but she doesn't. She really, really tries in singing, dancing, and everything she does, even though her talent doesn't come easily or naturally like it might for some other members. She wants to improve, and through hard effort, she has, and continues to do so. She definitely deserves credit for that, IMO.

Totally agree with MOCHU in terms of the comment of the lame "I'd like to see you do better" comeback.
It really doesn't take any "singing genius" to judge whether one is a good singer or not. So even if some people really cannot sing better, it doesnt means they can't tell what is good and what isn't(in terms of singing talent). Also, people who signed up as singers or even idols, get professional training so its no excuse.

this reminds me of people and how they say miley cyrus cant sing but to me she can and cant.
she can = she can sing high notes and can used vibrato
she cant = its the actual depth of the voice.
but over the years sayu has improved qiute a lot which is why it's been acknowledged so shes getting mroe oppurtunites.

Individual idols improving is quite commendable, but if you consider singing talents elsewhere in the world(and I do not mean Susan Boyle, or other youtube-fads), they are not especially good at either singing or dancing. I was a sound-tech in a choir(Ten Sing), and my sister(began after me) was one of the main solo vocalists. I'm no expert at singing, but I have heard quite a lot of god quality singing, although not at a professional level. I think its safe to say that there are little talent in H!P, with a few exceptions in Pro EGG.
I'm not especially in to morning musune, so I haven't listened to many concerts, but in Hello! Project 2009 Winter Concert Kettei! Halo Pro Award 09(http://www.youtube.c...kJ7E&feature... , Maeda Yuki performs Kenchana Daijoubu. And she totally blows my socks off! This is what its supposed to be like. Don't come and say that you can pleasantly listen to the other idols singing live after that, and think they are good...

i honestly dont think tsunku chose her just because shes insanely cute tsunku has said he doesnt pick girls just on that i think he saw something in sayu and i see it too =]]

It's quite lame to deem what is 'good' and 'not good' for singing. It's all a matter of opinion no matter what facts or stories or research people want to spew out. It doesn't matter what type of class you happen to sit through, the standard for 'good' differs from person to person.
To some people, Sayu's voice is good, to other's it's bad. There shouldn't really be any discussion since it won't get anyone anywhere now would it? :] But then again... This is the interwebz and discussions like these happen anyway XD
Anyway, back to the picture, I didn't recognize her at all! D: For some reason she looked like Junjun at first XD I'm loving the outfit :DD!! She is too cute <3

Hey, im not saying she sings shit/bad. All I was saying was that it doesnt take any professional to judge a person's singing. Thus, I earlier quoted that "I'd like to see you do better" was lame.
