Miki getting married wasn't a scandal as she had graduated from H!P when it was announced. I don't think Maki leaving H!P was a scandal either.

that's why "scandal" tabloids made it look like it was something supernatural. but momoko didn't anything interesting to a tabloid nowadays as far as I know. I'm curious.

They're not talking about scandals in this article. They're talking about who comes from a poor family. Apparently its about their "Sad stories when they were poor"
They're showing Miki because she was poor, but they're asking "Will she be able to escape the poor life now that shes getting married?" Momoko is being showed because she is popular on the internet as a poor character. Ai is also apparently poor and is surrounded by unfortunate events. The picture of Maki is about the people in H!P that come from single mother families. Apparently these idols became idols to become richer and that single mother families smell of unhappiness.

There were some purikura pics of a girl kissing a guy, and it was "censored" by whomever took the picture, however, the profile looked a LOT like Momoko.
And there were many, many comparison pics of Momoko in same or similar facial position, with the purikura pictures. I believe this was reported in the tabloids, but I don't remember.

Bubka isn't only about scandals you know, it's a tabloid, so anything interesting goes into it.
Just because it's in bubka it's not always bad.

This all makes me wonder - how much money do the girls rake in? I'm assuming they don't get much, relatively speaking, but I'd like to think I'm wrong and that they are well off.

Rumoured numbers had the least popular members in MM at about a normal full-time salary and the most popular (Ai) at about 5x of that. If you want to believe that maybe we can then assume that many of the kids makes a bit less than the least paid in MM while some of course makes a bit more, but probably not close to Ai.
And they of course make way less than the "Golden Era" members..

The girls get paid next to nothing. They are charged for every dance lesson, food, hair styling, etc. The gross profit of Hello Project is used to support as many people as possible, previously senior members like nakazawa got salary even though they didn't so much tv work. It's about seniority. When profits dropped, they got "graduated" for the last time.
It's basically indentured slavery of the sort found in Japan in most entertainment work. Everyone has to release how much they make in Japan during taxes, so the info is out there if you want to know exactly how much.
What they make money on is guest appearances, radio shows, promos, etc. They get paid virtually nothing for being in MM. There's a reason for Tsuji, rika, and everyone who is in demand being on so many TV shows. They make about $500 for each visit , per show.
If you see Tsuji on ten shows in a week, she's doing well by talenta standards. Less popular artists make less than that.

I'd appreciate some sources for your numbers ASSEMbler.
What gordokaba says regarding the rumored numbers (although I can remember back to early 2000's that there were released numbers - with Rika being on top of that list), rings true.
The most popular girls makes a decent amount of money, the rest: not so much.

Krusha and drahzaar we know what they make as we're in the know, we all read the same 2chan stuff, the same posts etc. My point was this: what people expect them to make in a western frame of reference versus the reality of what they get paid in Japan.
For all their fame, what they get paid is low compared to what is normal for an entertainer in the west. Even Rika with all her work makes a pretty low salary given Japan is the most expensive place on earth to live.

^ You're being a little melodramatic with the indentured slavery thing, don't you think? Getting paid to dance and sing is kind of the exact opposite of that.
But, unless the numbers have changed drastically in the last year or two, the H!P kids are all making at least $70,000 a year. Any 17 year old who makes 70 grand is ahead of the curve, and remember it's entirely supplemental income for their family. And, I'm sure the average musume still pulls in over 6 figures annually, without any issue. I don't feel sorry for anyone who gets paid nearly twice the U.S. median salary to dance and sing and act cute. Sorry.

Yeah. As far as Japanese entertainers go, h!p is one of the better paying. No, they don't make a lot by western standards of entertainers. They're not going to be buying a private jet any time soon, but they make at least as much as your average salary man, and in most cases more.

I don't know if it was a scandal. I do k now the new video Kuno posted up of Tsunku with the Comedians, They apologized for their other member taking Mikity away, after Tsunku expressed how he wants to hit someone for taking any musume girls away from him.

$70,000 USD is minimum wage for places like Tokyo. Everythings expensive there. Stars really can make good money doing extras like appearing in commercials since they get to keep that money themselves. It's like the Olympics. Many winners make millions on endorsements and commercial appearences. One year, TLC was the biggest act in the world but they made only $60 -$70 that year. I actually made more. I heard the Back Street Boys made a million each doing the MacDonalds commercial. I assume it's the same for Japan.
