Iida was always in the background too. It helps to even out the heights. Really, do you imagine that cover placement is a punishment for under-performance or something? It's not impossible, but I really doubt it.

I doubt her height was the reason for this, since the C-ute girls are often pictured standing side-by-side on covers, and I'm not implying that it was some kind of punishment, especially since I don't think Erika is an under-performer.
It just looks silly. She had to think *something* about this when she saw it. I would. I think anyone would. And not only is she in the background, but she is the *only one* in the background out of 6 girls, and over half of her body is in heavy shadow. It's like they just sort of tucked her back there, as out of the way as possible.

I don't think putting her in the shadow like that helps even out the heights. Mai looks like she is almost, if not, as tall as Umeda. She's in the dark, the LAST person I looked at back when this first came out. Just pathetic. It does not draw attention. if anything, it draws bad attention. "Why's that girl in the back..?" Not good for the artist/singer.
I wouldn't be surprised if Umeda made her graduate choice back when this came out, imho.
