They've only been in H!P since mid 2002, so it hasn't been all that long, really. Although, it has been basically a third of their lives, if you think about it that way.

^^^Well, if you think about it that way Hagiwara Mai has already been in H!P for more than half her life. She was born Feb 7th. 1996, and she was signed by at least the date of the Hello! Morning H!P Kids Special on June 30th, 2002. In contrast, even Nacchi is still many years from having spent half her life in the "Tsunku Family". It is weird to think that at this point Mai has lived more of her life in showbiz than out of it. It's like I've always said: "MaiMai is hardcore. She grew up in the projects, the Hello! Projects."
EDIT: My math for half might be a bit off... but not by much I don't think. Me no school good... *cough*
@★Shining Star★: Well it only seems that way because we only see them when they are in front of the cameras. We weren't privy to all the times they went to school, or played with friends, or ate dinner with their families. We only saw the abnormal (special?) parts of their growing up. I don't know how you feel, but personally I don't think they were active enough back then that their childhoods were stolen by work, I can't say for certain though.

At that time, it was pretty much like how the Eggs work now, I would think. They spend a *lot* of their time doing average things, like visiting friends or spending time with family, and their work within H!P seems like it's mostly dance practice and the occasional event. Of course, I'm sure it gets hectic when they have to go out on tour... but still, that's only back-up work, which is what the Kids did way back when. Now that some Eggs are getting more successful, though, I'm sure the workload has to be increasing.
... In other words -- rofl idk, but they probably weren't as robbed of their childhoods as one might think. In Maimai's case, I think it definitely did wonders for her confidence at that age (though she's kind of snotty sometimes now :X).
edit: Forgot to give my praises to the picture, hah. Maa's cheeks <3 God, the little socks are KILLING ME. Completely adorable.
