Since the background says Star Trek on it I think that they are the cast of the recent movie. (Never seen the movie though)
Wonder what the AKB tie is?

They are the cast of the new movie.
And what's funny, atleast to me, is that if you view the colors of their socks, it's red, blue and yellow. In Star Trek, those are the three uniform colors. Red: Strategic/Command, Blue: Medic/Science, Yellow: Engineering.
At any rate I don't really remember what the tie in was, except that the director of the Star Trek movie, suggested that AKB48 would be featured in the next Star Trek movie as female aliens.

You got yellow and red wrong ;)
Kirk is Yellow (Strategic/Command) and Scotty is Red (Engineering)
I'd love to see the girls as female aliens in the next installment of the movie!!
Acchan would look extremely HOT as a blue skinned sexy alien!! or Takamina!! or Rino!! or Aki!! or...

I did not get anything 'wrong' actually.
That is the color scheme as per early days Star Trek era (red=engineering/yellow=strategic/command etc.) - but it's correct considering TNG, DS9, VOY, and many of the movies, which would be the most current in terms of timeline.

I never followed TNG, DS9, VOY... and don't really remember very well the last few movies, and I'm guessing we are not considering this new one...

THIS.IS.AWESOME.
although, boo for Yuko not having yellow socks. that was totally my fave star trek uniform color when i watched it some years ago :D
on the plus side, seeing . Zachary with Yuko makes the sock thing all good. <33
