A pair of "safety pants" is a garment that is worn over underwear that covers most areas "of interest" with an additional layer of security. Their main purpose is to prevent disaster should the idol in question make it through the whole costuming process sans underwear, thus acting as an additional safety net. It also removes problems with transparency in various lighting situations.

One thing you guys may or may not know is that under the real underwear there is also "safety underwear". The thin side straps are clear just like the clear bra straps the girls sometimes wear. The safety underwear appears to fit very tight. The side straps are thick. So if a girl is wearing string or tie side underwear, the straps on the safety underwear can be seen.

^but why would they need "safety underwear?" from what i understand, their real underwear is usually flesh colored, and plain jane. what do you mean by thin straps? is it something like a pair of clear thongs?

^ The entire safety underwear could not be seen because the real underwear was still on (and working correctly). The front and back of the safety underwear was not visible. But, the sides of the real underwear were very narrow. More narrow than the clear straps of the safety underwear which could be seen underneath. At the time this was seen, a question was posted about it. But no one answered. Maybe it was too embarrassing so it was edit out.
