Hagiwara Mai had to wear sunglasses because she had lazer eye surgery and all the light's on stage and in PV's would mess up her eyes really bad

that's a good point but your allowed to get eye surgery IF you have adult supervision so I'm guessing that Tsunku talked to Hagiwara Mai's parents and they went with her

Well I your eye sight doesn't have to be THAT bad to get it. It's more a matter of money than actual sight problems.
