The main point being IF. Westerners marrying Japanese isn't exactly common and while it is trendy to have foreign friends or to date a foreigner many Japanese women are often reluctant to consider the idea of marrying a foreigner at least in my own experience and from what i have talked to people about. It does happen but not a common or easy thing to achieve. Cultural differences often get in the way of budding relationships and when the novelty of dating a foreign guy wears off they'll often cut themselves loose fairly quick.

It's also dependent on getting a Spouse Visa. This is a complex thing and not quite as simple as some think like "Oh if i marry a local i can live and work in that country and everything will be okay." Some countries are more slack on immigration than others but it's never as simple as just getting married and everything will be fine. It can take a year of paperwork and interviews and even then you could be declined for several reasons.

Have you been to Japan before? I used to live in Japan last year for a month and a half. Of course it is hard to find a Japanese girlfriend(I did a lot of ナンパ in japan, in japanese nonetheless, and all I got was some OL who was twice my age to have a night of fun). Also despite that, I saw many interracial couples in Japan, in fact in the sharedhouse I lived in there were 2 european women who were both married to japanese men. I failed when I was in Japan because when I first started doing ナンパ I was really only looking for someone to spend the night with, and by the time I had realized I had been it wrong all along, it was too late.

As for getting a spouse visa, it is actually quite easy, from what I have read it takes usually 2 weeks to 2 months. And they must not be that strict as ive read of nigerians who have been working illegaly and overstayed their visas and then they found a japanese woman and they were even able to get a spouse visa approved.

Not to mention as already pointed out you'd need to be fluent in the language and have the right career background to even be considered for the job and then you'll only get the job based on immigration paperwork and you could easily be denied a visa. The Japanese are not in the business of letting in tons of westerners to live there unless they have a good reason to be there and will be useful members of society.

If you get married to a Japanese and get a spouse visa, you (legally) can work pretty much any job.

Logistics is not a problem because I am working it out with a travel agency. I don't know how to go to Japan any other way - I mean, how do people get to stay there for weeks, if not months? Aren't they strict with foreigners?

Well, you can stay 3 months on a temporary landing permit(thats what all toursits get when they first go through immigration), I was there for 1 month and half and there was no problems at customs at the airport. Once you are past immigration you are a free man. The only questions they all ask you is what are your planning on doing in Japan and they ask for a hotel reservation. For me, I was in japan to search for jobs, but obviously I did not tell them that, always just say you are there for sightseeing. I also said I had no hotel reservations and I just told them I was staying at internet cafes(which I was) and they were OK with that.

You can sleep at internet cafes? If I become a "free man", is it easy to get a return ticket?

Thank you for the detailed directions, Nao-kun! Saved it for reference.

Yes you can sleep at internet cafes. Japanese internet cafes are a lot different, they have booths and are like your own personal quasi-cubicle with good privacy.
Also I might add, to get in Japan most of the time you have to have a return ticket. If they see you only have a one way ticket they will think it is suspicious and that you are planning on not leaving after the 3 months are up.
