Taiyo to Umi no Kyushitsu - The first few episodes were a total tearfest for me. Somehow fell flat after that, but then I think that's just me. Still recommended.
Samurai High School - In it's own right, this is a fun watch.
Hammer Session - Tearfest for me. In all honesty, it's a really good story.

However, some other good ones are LIFE and Yukan Club, though, they are pretty much total opposites in terms of mood
I've yet to watch them but Hana Yori Dango and Hana Kimi are, I'd suggest, obvious ones.
Also, maybe, though it's not an overly popular choice, Gachi Baka is worth a shot. I've only seen a few episodes since my sister got bored of watching it with me, but I plan to complete it one day.
However, there are also some interesting Middle School dramas, too.
16sai no Blues is an example, though it's only 4 episodes long.
Kinpachi-sensei seems to be pretty interesting, too. There are several seasons of this but, unfortunately, most are impossible to find with English subs - you can only really find seasons 6 & 7, but you can watch them separately, since the stories are all different. I actually watched the first 6 or 7 epsidodes of Season 5 (the only season I've attempted to watch), but the links alll died before I could get any further.
Kinpachi and Gachi Baka seem to have similar themes to Gokusen in that we see the homeroom teacher helping their seemingly hopeless pupils with their private life issues, only they aren't exaggerated elinquents and the issues at hand are a little more serious and relatable. Gachi Baka's a bit exaggerated in these areas, as it's primarily a comedy, but it still handles the issues with tact. Kinpachi is quite realistic and deals with issues that were, apparently, actually common issues in Japanese youth when the drama was aired.
