I can't remember... is the single doing well on average? I can't recall how much the last few singles sold in their first week.

 

And Dai Jinsei never grew on me. Chu Chu Chu, however is amazing!!

Skipped the whole single... Not liking both songs. I see a difference of 20k copies if you compare 69th single and 71th (not counting the Last one because of tripple A-Side and Maachan) and who knows?
Lack of promotion and events or bad songs?
Lack of Maachan Fans?

I've made a comparison chart of singles' first day / first week / total Oricon sales since Sayu's graduation release. This isn't their worst, but it also isn't their best selling. Just keep in mind Oricon changed their counting method between Utakata Saturday Night and Sexy Cat

 

I personally kiiiinda can bop to Chu Chu Chu, and I saw Japanese fans commenting on youtube that Dai Jinsei is refreshing, but this single is incredibly lackluster for me. I think, primarily, I'm just over the falsetto thing they do in Dai Jinsei...seems a lot of their songs have a part like that, and it's old and beginning to grate on me. I've also been ready for them to ditch Cool Musume and go back to Funky/Happy Musume for a while. People hated on it at the time, but I still jam to Pyoko Pyoko Ultra and other songs like it

So it's basically their weakest first week sales since 2017

I'm glad it still sold 100k because i would be pissed to see Chiichan leave on a sad note, but yeah...

I think it's likely the sales were impacted because Masaki was absent and not featured in the main a-sides for that single due to her break.

This is funny to me since BNM/JJ was the last single from MM that I truly loved and thought hit all the marks Although of course we know that quality isn't always reflected in sales when it comes to idol groups.

 

On the topic of this most recent single: Dai Jinsei has really grown on me. It's both refreshing and nostalgic at the same time, parts of it sound modern and other parts sound like they came from 80s/90s J-pop. A surprisingly enjoyable summer bop!

 

Also is anyone else obsessed with Mei's "What?" in Chu Chu Chu? It's so cute haha

jajajaja Yes! Mei's "What?" line is stuck in my head. I don't know japanese, but every time they sing a similar part in that song, I always say in my head "what?" lol So cute!
