I assume that store also does rentals, unless you are referring to a five-finger discount? :wink:i borrow manga from a nearby bookstore, but i buy the ones that i really like. right now theres only 5 anime manga books that im buying. but i wouldnt buy the english versions. i just think the way it is translated in english is very boring and the sound effects are just lame. they also censor everything. i prefer japanese or korean (although korean censors too).
So, which ones did you end up buying

Juline 1-5 (complete), Vampire Yui 1 and The Vampire Dahlia (Only volume)
so, that makes 213 books, which is the size of my current compilation.
I might make some reviews sometime. I'll make new threads for them then.

Not every English version censors everything though...In fact, most of the English manga that I have are 100% unedited. There are some releases that are censored but those are a pretty small amount compared to the English versions that aren't. doinkies doesn't buy censored releases anyway...
Anyway, along with English releases, I buy manga in Japanese as well. I have tons of English releases and tons of Japanese releases as well.

Eh, since I'm challenged and only can read and speak English, I don't have an opinion on how much American translators take out ::

The one edit i've always hated is when Eng Shonen Jump changed certain Naruto title and such
They changed the cooler sounding Chunin to Journeyman, which makes no sense
It's good that the english dub kept it Chuunin

that's the tough thing about translating terminology. Do you translate the word to carry the meaning? or do you leave the terminology as it has unique cultural definition ... there are no hard and fast rules and it's hard to please everyoneThe one edit i've always hated is when Eng Shonen Jump changed certain Naruto title and suchEh, since I'm challenged and only can read and speak English, I don't have an opinion on how much American translators take out ::

the thing that I dislike is that the japanese name is usually alot better sounding then using a literal translation, and alot of the hardcore fans already know the meaning and would tend to want the japanese name, its only cause the translators are trying to be considerate to the non-hardcore fans who probably wouldn't understand what the name meant even if SJ decided to put a definition in

Heh, I only buy the Japanese versions too. When I compare the two, the english version just seems to be lacking in areas.i borrow manga from a nearby bookstore, but i buy the ones that i really like. right now theres only 5 anime manga books that im buying. but i wouldnt buy the english versions. i just think the way it is translated in english is very boring and the sound effects are just lame. they also censor everything. i prefer japanese or korean (although korean censors too).
Hmm....I just realized from reading this thread that I haven't bought any comics (I know, technically it's manga....) in a while, just a few select titles in V-Jump....Tche...I still have a few titles to finish collecting....
