I watched that tinytiny episode in full, and I feel really bad for Honopi that she had to hide from her mother that she auditioned for H!P. I'm glad it worked out in the end, and that her and her mom seem to be on somewhat better terms now... because I really like Honopi and am glad she is in BEYOOOOONDS.
I'm just speculating here... but not wanting to upset her mother is also probably why she feels she had to twist the facts in that episode about how she became interested in H!P and wanted to become an idol.
Honopi described in that episode that she got into idols, MM, and H!P generally around the same time as the Only You audition... but some people in the Japanese H!P fandom discovered that Honopi was in a H!P cover dance group (called "Evening Musume。") at her high school over a year before the start of the Only You audition was announced. Her previous social media accounts also show she has been a big fan of Love Live, Vocaloid, and other idol-related things since at least early middle school. I wonder if her mother didn't know those things (and maybe still doesn't know those things?). I imagine Honopi probably felt she needed to hide those things, and possibly continue to hide them due to fear of her mother knowing and being opposed to them...
Hopefully she'll be able to come to complete terms with her mother, and her mother will be more accepting of Honopi and her interests... if they haven't come to complete terms already.
Anyways... I'm glad she's able to continue her piano studies in University, while also being a piano-playing idol in H!P. Up Front sometimes does many things I disagree with, but they have always been generally good about allowing their idols to balance their work and school lives.
