RFRO was first pitched "something else" a "different branch of H!P" and then that was reworked into acting, stage shows, etc. That got reworked into what we see now... there is an element of acting but it's a flavor of idol, not different from idols. Performing Girl Zone is more than "singing a song" and "doing a dance." (Same can be said of Beyo's Geki-kara.) I mean... it's a "choreography" but the choreography calls for particular emotional expression... Even more obviously also true for Beyooooonds songs like Megane, Jikoiincho.
C#T was pitched as "Bodily expression" which most people took to mean dance-centric. It's not really PROOF of anything, but just for the impression that everybody had... Ichioka was told that she had best work on her flexibility (they talk about it in the nobishiro video) and ended up here, really cutesy with a tendency to put something train related into the song...
Another thing I didn't remember/notice at the time (but is mentioned in the video) is that the Only One audition which found Hirai, Satoyoshi, & Kobayashi was open to women up to 22 years old, which is 5 years older than every other H!P audition in recent history (UF does some slightly different things also, and sometimes bleeds members into H!P but...)
It really makes me think that they gave up on their alternate plans for RFRO & C#T based on the outcome of Only One, but... I really like Beyo as they turned out, so it's a happy kind of giving up
What I've learned about Japanese so far, is that you must first pay attention to these 2 things:
Rule #1 and
Context. After that, just pray they remember their high-school English class.
