Welcome to the thread for Science Fiction fans!

Post your favourite movies and drama recommendations.

Here is my current recommendation list:

1. The Expanse (drama)

2. Utopia (drama)

3. Primer (movie) - it may seem boring at the beginning, but it's totally worth watching

4. The lost room (drama)

..

I still need to check "Limitless" and good ol' "Firefly" (never finished watching the pilot). Also, I'm about to start reading "Xenos" and start exploring the vast legendarium of Warhammer 40000.

I love the genre! I've watched, read, played so much sci-fi  :good:

Here is my top movies:

ALIEN (10/10, I've watched it over 50 times LOL Also, I want to mention Alien Isolation game on PS3. It's excellent and atmosphere feels just like the movie)

Blade Runner

Aliens

Robocop

The Terminator

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

Escape from New York

I usually love dystopian stuff. Also cyberpunk, androids, space monsters... everything  :w00t:

I totally agree with that! Quite unpopular opinion, but "The Terminator" is the best in all series - that Terminator was totally brutal and ruthless, unlike its family version in subsequent series.. Also "Alien" gave true chilling fear, the horror of unknown.

If we're walking down the lane of movies from the past, here are some classic sci-fi movies that I like

- Soldier

- Cyborg

- Gattaca

- Event Horizon

- Enemy Mine

- They Live

- Screamers

- Pitch Black

Did you know that "Matrix" and "Prometheus" movies and all the modern fuss abour alien races, controlling the Earth, are based on Val Valerian's books? I'm not saying it's worth reading or total bs, but it certainly influenced society in some sense ;)

I haven't played "Alien Isolation" yet. I heard it's good one though. I'll buy it when I'll become less busy.

I'm watching "Dark matter" tv-series and to my surprise it became somewhat interesting - some of the characters' backgrounds are intriguing. The "science fiction" part of the series is not really impressive, however there are some scenes that looked cool, e.g. the first appearance of "The Android" - she reminded me badass Ripley from "Aliens 4: Ressurection".

"Limitless" reminded me of "Chuck" tv-series. The only reason I kept watching it is because I enjoyed acting of Jennifer Carpenter ("Dexter's sister") and Bradley Cooper (he looks cool).

I'm planning to start watching "The man in the high castle" after "Dark matter", I heard there are good visual effects (really dumb reason to start watching, but still worth a try).

The Man in the High Castle was great, and I am looking forward to the 2nd season. I also watched the first season of The Expanse, which was new to me as I have not read any of the books. So it felt very slow in the beginning, but it got much better by the end.

The Lost Room which you mentioned above was neat, but a pity that it ended as a mini series. The same guy(s) also made a more recent pilot episode (presented as a movie). This would be "Parallels". Since it's a pilot, there was several things that irked me, such as certain actors which I would've replaced, and some lines / script. Other than that, it looked really cool, with a lot of potential. But of course it never got made, so... Even if it's incomplete, I recommend watching it.

My all-time favorite sci-fi series are Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. For 'reasons' I did not want to watch Star Trek: Enterprise. And I am not on board with the new Star Trek movies at all. They are utter garbage. With news of a new Star Trek series coming up in 2017, I can only hope that it follows the established timeline, somewhere post-VOY/Nemesis, and continues the true philosophy of what Star Trek really is about, instead of becoming a sub par action-based show.

Other than that, X Files, although perhaps not strictly sci-fi, is a classic. And Fringe likewise really fun.

I watched the advanced showing of first episode of The Expanse, it looked and played pretty good so I thought I  was going to like it quite well, but by the 4th episode I gave up on it.  That's because it looked so good I started reading the books before the show started airing and at least to me, they just changed the story too much in a negative way that I just didn't like it and just stuck to reading the books.

The Man in the High Castle was great, couldn't remember the novel that well (even I wrote my thesis on Philip K. Dick (a long time ago), haha).

Couldn't get into The Expanse, maybe I should give it another try some day.

BLACK MIRROR was a great SF series ...
