This is the first time I've used this blog in over two years!
Idol Matsuri is a convention being held on June 20 to 22 in Silverdale, Washington in the United States dedicated to celebrating Japanese idols. At this convention there will be live performances from idol groups, panels about idol culture, contests, a dance and much more. Those interested in Japanese idols will find something to keep their interests throughout the weekend. The convention president is none other than H!O's Ayaka Moon, a big fan of Wada Ayaka of S/mileage. I've been good friends with her for a few years now and she's asked me to help spread the word about this awesome idol event, the first such convention held in the U.S. The special guests at Idol Matsuri will be Aither, an idol group that I am proud to have been the first to write about in English and having played a part in promoting to many people outside of Japan; RYUTist, an idol group that I have only become familiar with recently, but am liking very much; Halko Momoi, a singer / songwriter who writes songs for idol groups and is involved in the anime industry; international guest Beckii Cruel, a British singer and model; and DJ Amaya, who will be the DJ at the dance. I'll admit that I am not familiar with all the guests, but perhaps you aren't either. If you attend you'll have the opportunity to see all these guests and possibly become a new fan in the process. If this initial convention is a success then this will mean a bigger and more exciting convention next year, perhaps with larger and more well known idol groups (but hopefully an indie group or two, as they are my favorites).
So, how will this cool convention be a success and possibly continue on year after year? Through your help! Conventions cost money and this is why a fundraiser is needed. Right now the funds are a bit over the $5000 mark, but twice as much is needed, if possible. If this sounds like something you want to contribute to, here is the link. Thank you for reading this.
P.S., I'll be hosting a panel on junior idols at Idol Matsuri. I'm extremely nervous at the prospect of talking to a crowd of people for the first time in my life!
