mixi Hello! Project Popularity Ranking

Ok, for everyone who'd like to join mixi and have an influence on this popularity ranking:

1. New rule since March 15th: People who want to join mixi have to provide a valid email and cell phone address in order to complete the registration. The management of mixi decided to set up this rule in order to prevent multiple accounts which is a big problem in mixi. You should blame yourself because you didn't join mixi earlier! (#>_<)
2. I don't have the right to decide on who should be invited and who not, so I'll invite anyone who asks to be invited. BUT you should be well aware that it's a Japanese site. Even the invitation mail and registration form is completely in Japanese. So anyone who understands enough Japanese to handle that on his/her own is welcome to pm his/her mail addy to me or someone else who's already in mixi. We'll invite you then (hopefully).

For everyone else who don't know Japanese at all:

Do your best and start studying Japanese. ^^

So basically mixi is a social networking service with more than 1 million communities and 10 million members. Of course all Japanese H!P member fan communities are included in mixi, that's why you can count the number of people each H!P member community has. Of course it's just statistics, but imo it's the most significant way to get a popularity rank of H!P in total. I'm posting this, because there are often misunderstandings among non-Japanese fans about the popularity of certain H!P members in Japan. For example not everyone knows about Konno's or Tsuji's extreme popularity, because they aren't as popular in English H!P forums.

This is a direct translation from a monthly 2ch thread, which announces the monthly results. If there's interest I can continue updating this thread every month. I don't know each and every H!P member by name, so if there are any mistakes, please tell me, so I can correct them.

- mixi extracts the maximum amount of community members of each Hello! Project member's each individual fan communities. If there are multiple fan communities of a Hello! Project member, the numbers aren't added, instead the community with the most members gets chosen. <-- This rule doesn't hurt the numbers of any H!P members, because there are no multiple fan communities of one H!P member presently.
- The names of regular Hello! Project members, former members, trainees, former trainees are obviously separated and inquired as currently 111 names in total.
- 102 communities were found in total.

- Gotou Maki who already announced her graduation from H!P suddenly gained 187 new community members. Thus she surpassed Kamei Eri, Tanaka Reina and reached rank 8.
- Abe Natsumi's community also had a sudden rise (90 new members). She beat Konno Asami, Koharu Kusumi and reached rank 5.
- Kusumi Koharu's community had the first decrease since this survey started in June of 2006. Other members in the top 20, who had a decrease are Fujimoto Miki and Tsuji Nozomi.
- Tanaka Reina's popularity boom continues on with the gain of 49 new members. Kamei's community also looks promising with the gain of 55 new members.
- Kago Ai's community has reached rank 11 with the sudden rise in members (81).
- Yoshizawa Hitomi surpassed Ishikawa Rika and reached rank 13, Natsuyaki Miyabi surpassed Niigaki Risa and reached rank 19.
- The communities of Tsugunaga Momoko and Suzuki Airi both broke through 1000. The next candidates to cross the 1000 are Natsuyaki, Niigaki, Yajima, Satoda, who have still about 800 community members.
- Satoda Mai's community continues the steady rise in members with an increase rate of 10% for 8 consecutive months.
- The commotion around Ongaku Gatas seems to have reached its limit.
- Asami fell through 100 and Mori Saki broke through 100. The next candidates to reach 100 members are Ogawa Saki, Yutoku Ayumi and others.
- Ishiguro Aya surpassed 8 other members with an explosive rise of 38% (41 new members).

Other interesting observations would be that Linlin's fan community has only half the amount of members as Junjun's and that the communities of current Momusu members like Niigaki and Michishige lose to the ones of former Momusu members, who were involved in scandals, like Kago and Yaguchi. It's also nice to see that generally speaking the fan communities are becoming bigger and bigger.

Wow. These rankings are really interesting... though I'm not surprised at all that Aya is at number one. I didn't expect Miki to score so high (nothing against her, I just didn't think she was this popular).
It's mostly quite interesting to see all of the ranks of the graduated members and the ones that had not-so-scintillating ends to their careers in comparison to the current members... and to see them beat out most of the ones that are still around.

Mitsui is higher than I expected, higher than a lot of the bigger H!P names that I assumed were more popular.

I assume people like Mika Todd who left the H!P 'scene' a long time ago will continue to decrease in popularity, leaving only the core fans.
Makoto has always been under-appriciated of course.

I'd expect Yossie to be higher... she's lower than Eri and Koharu. I love them both to bits, but Yossie has always been crazy popular on the English forums, and with good reason.

I like that idea. We'd even have a big influence on the mixi rankings. But in order to join Mixi, you have to get an invitation from a mixi member. I'm not in mixi and I don't know anyone in mixi, so that's where I'm stuck.
