I'd say it's only natural getting very close to the people you spend most of your days with, that doesn't mean they have a romantic relationship. Girls usually have a close friendship, and I think they're not as afraid of showing it as boys.
Lol i love these discussions. As far as anything between those two i don't really see it in the same way i think something is going on between say Yossie and Makoto or even the closeness in a friendship way that Tsuji and Kago used to have.
Sometimes the way they talk it doesn't quite seem they are close in a friendship or lovers sort of way they just have this huge respect for each other and i can understand that. They started together and both worked so hard to keep Morning Musume going over the years.

I believe girls are more likely to be bisexual rather than exclusively lesbian? I guess that'd be their case. You can tell the amazing chemistry between them and since there was a strict no-boy policy, they surely had many chances to "try" stuff...
I was watching the unreleased footage from Ai and Gaki in korea, and in one part they are reminiscing about their last trip to Korea (part 1 around 7m45) and they start laughing about how they went to this one massage shop where the old woman started stripping Ai quickly to get to the massage. There Gaki mentions how she had never seen Ai naked before and she started to feel really embarrassed there. So take that for what you will lol.
While I have seen hints at relationships between members, I'd never seen anything to make me think there was one between Ai and Gaki. But fan pairings are common in every fandom i've ever been apart of. I personally don't really like them, but i certainly am not gonna tell some one else how to be a fan.

^ Here's the 1st part (I think you were asking me), and the rest of the parts are on his channel. I spent the whole video looking for TakaGaki signs too lol (and I'd be happy to discuss/summarize parts if you want.) I don't agree that they aren't very close (even compared to TsujiKago), otherwise they wouldn't take weekend getaways to Korea together, or have the kind of chemistry you see in those clips but I think Gaki is pretty conservative, personally. (She kinda bawked when Junjun confessed to Saki, for example). The only musume who I think there is no doubt about it is Junjun actually.
Junjun? Nah, I think anything there is just professional fanservice... she's not a shy girl and methinks she is playing the game... to good effect, though. ;)
As for TakaGaki, they're close but I think Ai-chan had a closer friendship with LinLin, merely 'cos of far more shared interests and probably more on a similar wavelength. With TakaGaki I think they get on well together, can have a laugh together, and the rest I think is generated merely from spending 10 of their formative years working closely together. And I don't think they'd be any closer than with the rest of 5-gen had Konkon and Makoto stayed with them.
I just think it's nice to see them together... they always bring a smile to my face as I think they do bring out some of the best in each other (although AiLin was possibly better for that).
