First time I've really seen the 9th and 10th generations together... and it looks like Risa, Sayu and Reina are baby-sitting!!!
The others look so young!!
And no Aika :(
Just an announcement from UFA / H!P to allay any fears would be appreciated - or even to confirm the worst... but no, they leave us in limbo. :(

If UFA graduates Aika like this, I'm going to be seriously pissed. It's a nice picture, but I can't get over how upset I am that Aika's not there. They were able to fit her into all the Kono Chikyuu pics, and that was when her injury was fresh.

Mitsi could not attend every photoshoot. She needs her rest. As that pic from BLT shows. Mitsi was with everyone for the magazine, except for the cover shoot. I read somewhere she had to take a rest. That means Mitsi could not do pro-longed activities. I rather have Mitsi rest more so she could recover quickly instead of doing more activities and risk making her injuries worse.

Yes, im sorry to say it but i think Aika is on her way out.
There is no way she couldn't have been in this picture if she and ufa WANTED it.
Its her leg that has problems, it's not like shes dying or something.
Yes it would probably be a lot of work, but it would show that shes still in the group and coming back as soon as shes healthy.
Now it just seems that they are fading her out, i predict 1 month of almost no Aika appreances, followed by an announcement that she has graduated from MM and H!P due to health problems with her legs. That way they don't have to give her a graduation concert or similarly.

I don't think it's a photo that was taken especially for a magazine. It's an official H!P photo. I doubt it's a schedule related problem that Aika isn't in it.
Besides that, I think it's awesome that with Kanon they show you don't have to be extremely thin to be "famous". You can have normal female curves and still be someone. Nice messages besides that usual "close to anorexia" theme.

I thought Tsunku didn't decide yet who he wanted to be sub-leader, so he just didn't pick one. According to age, Sayu would be the new sub-leader, but he felt that Reinya would fit that role better. Something like that. I didn't read anything about those two declining anything.

This is just my opinion, but having a subleader was never that big of deal other than us knowing that that person will be the next leader when the leader graduates. Who knows, they are probably keeping it a secret to build suspense for when gaki graduates. A leader is like the face of the group but a subleader just doesn't seem that important to have since basically all the senpai, not just gaki, supported ai and helped out with the group. I would think that people outside of fans wouldnt really remember who the subleader is. In the end, whether they have one or not, I would probably be more interested in how reina or sayu would be like when they become leader.

I love the girls, but if Aika disappears without so much as a grad concert, I don't think I'll be able to support UFA anymore.

^ Well on Bijo Gaku she talked to them pretty harshly during their concert practices(even more than the other senpais.) And when they appeared on Melodix! all the kyuukies said she was the scariest. Plus you rarely saw them interact with each other on Hello! ProTime, even before Aika was sidelined. And there isn't that many blog pics of them together.

If it's younger people then she's close with Mai (like really close!) older people? She's close with all the older members in MM (even Yossy and Miki)
Aika has stress too, that's a thing we can't forget, she's mentoring all 4 alone, and that's easier said than done.

All the reasons you just mentioned are purely based on what they decide to release to the media (show on TV, post on blogs), all from which I personally can't really conclude that she's not close with her fellow musumes since there is no real proof of anything. Your theories are just as much speculation as mine.
Also, back in the day Nakazawa-san was said to be the scariest sempai. She was very harsh on everyone including herself, yet she was very much loved by everyone. /offtopicrant
I just realized... are Mittens, Reina and Gakisan now the only members with dyed hair?

I think it was on Takahashi's grad video or her letters to the members or something that she said that Aika took on the role of leader of the 9th gen. She took on the lecturing and being hard on them as the one who was the age between the new girls and the senpais.
It'd be a good idea for Aika to be the sub-leader. She seems to take the leadership position when needed anyway and everyone thinks she's motherly.

yes, Aika mentors the whole 9th alone, which says a lot about herself, 5th and 6th. even though she was tough on 9th gen at times, isn't it better then being ignored?
Aika's injury is probably a direct result from mentoring 9th gen. classic stress fracture and explains why its taking so long to heal, as she is still somewhat active. would seem pretty cold hearted to force her out.
Fiona is right though. none of us really knows what goes on behind closed curtains and is all speculation. faerirose is right too. Aika shows great leadership skills
