Yup, I agree with Jltos and Ian that the Melon's not Dead title is in reference to the Melon spirit still being an integral part of H!P history. Good luck to the Melons! It's better that they leave H!P with a bang than slowly wither away like another fruit-theme idol group :(

That's really sad. I was just getting into them too :-( Kinda wish they weren't in the shadows as the "forgotten" group.

But anyway, looks like they're looking forward to the future. Best of luck to them in their future endeavors!

At first I was devastated. "They have been active, and are at a great age to appeal to a lot of people (imo)." Then they disband. lol But I am happy for them. They have been together for 10 YEARS. Amazing. I understand them wanting to do things. They gave us THEM (were honest and didn't act -cough-). I appreciate and respect that.

(But with the way things are with H!P..I am beginning to wonder. This has nothing to do with MK, but someones comment on the previous page spurred my brain lol)

I can't believe their disbanding because I never through in a million years their would end and plus I thought they would keep releasing singles & albums still T^T But now I understand that good things will end and other new adventures will began (I know that sounds totally corny lol) But anyways I love them tons and will always support these girls :D LOL I can just remember when I first discover them too. I came across one of their singles, Akai Freesia. I just fall for the song cause it was soo good and plus my all-time favorite. And ever since then been a fan. Wow 10 years full of fun, lovely, rockin' memories is truely accomplishment. Good Luck Girls & will support to the end! <3

This is bad news. Just when they were heading to a rock direction. So sad. Girls with such great voices. I want to hope that they will reform under a new name, but yes, I understand the meaning of "disband". Maybe they wanted a break. Maybe I can still hope for 5 years from now? I just don't want to see them go into the music industry separately. They were so great together. Sad sad.
Well, good luck anyway ;_;

Man, what a bummer. Melon Kinenbi have always been a solid group who would always deliver. It's really a sign of how much the whole 'hellopro' thing have changed, and the world moves on...

I was fortunate to see them live twice, once their club tour in 2006 (the Hiroshima show), and a Melon Greeting in 2008 (with guests Berryz). They put on absolutely fantastic shows, and really worked the crowd and stirred up the energy in the room. I'll never forget them.

"Don't say goodbye!"

Love the title so much more now.
Love sss the most. I kind of love that they went out with such a discordant, random song that seemed to have two tracks playing at once... The piano seemed so confusing and out of place, but I think it's more uplifting now.

The entire last album definitely showcases that the girls have that versatility in them, and it's awesome that they got to tackle a different genre before breaking up. Now, we all know what they're capable of together, instead of always having to wonder!

I want to cry right now. I've been going through this huge melon kinenbi phase for the past couple of months now, and I get on Hello! Online and this pops up.
This was one of the groups I thought would never break up, I thought they'd be together forever.
Now all we have is crappy F/rownage, which I will never pay any attention to.

I guess I can kind of see why they're disbanding. When you look at the future, it's hard to see what they would be doing together as a group. I think they'll get back together eventually for something, but it's going to be a while before anything like that happens.

All I know to say is that this is a huge dissapointment. I want to wish them well, i really do, but it's hard to send someone off like that. (As Maki Goto said to Yuko Nakazawa when she was graduating from MM). But I hope they will all find their true happiness after they disband.

(Listening to the Melon Juice album)

I find it kinda ironic that they're quiting right after their concert CALLED "Melon's Not Dead"...

 2010-02-20 22:19
This comes on the heels of my finding out that another of my fave groups, the Zone spin-off band Maria, is calling it quits too. My guess is that the economy is still sucky in Japan and it's getting harder and harder for groups to keep going on without major management/label support. I would have loved to see them stay together and keep the Melon Greetings series going. Now, one less great act to see if and when I get to Japan.

That means H!P has run off every cyborg they ever had.

This short-sightedness is why AKb48 is kicking so much tail right now...

I think it makes good sense and provides a tidy sense of closure.

As great as they all have been as a group, each of them probably has goals which conflict with continuing as a unit. Maybe other career plans, maybe education or romance, or travel.

I consider that they've given it an extraordinarily good run and hope that they'll have nothing but success in their own private ventures.

Let's see, the most talented group under the UFA umbrella... so to be consistent with previous ridiculous management decisions, management ends its existence. I wonder if it's that Yamazaki Naoki calling the shots or whether other idiots are making these decisions.

Sigh. I take a vacation to K-pop and come back to find yet another reason to be a H!P fan has closed it's doors. Not very many reasons for fandom left, just a few individual girls and one group that has Musumes on loan to it. I think there is some truth to the idea that as Tsunku gets older and presumably puts less effort in H!P, the smaller and ... well less entertaining it gets. It has recently been hemorrhaging personalities and talent, the life blood of any entertainment company, and like real blood you can only lose so much before the whole stops working.
Best of luck girls. You will be missed.

And now that they're no longer idols, I think it's time I go to visit Japan.
Mr. Boss Ninja ... got a ring to it no?
