Good for her. It comes as a surprise, but I think this is definitely the right decision for her, since she had no future in C-ute. She was constantly getting the shaft. That cover of the Bye Bye Bye Single V DVD where she was actually standing BEHIND everyone else and IN SHADOW was totally ridiculous. Plus, she's lucky if she gets 1 or 2 lines per song and is almost ALWAYS placed off to the side or in the background in photos, dances, etc... So I can't say I blame her. I would be frustrated if I were her, working my butt off day after day, but always playing second fiddle to the more popular girls in the group (*cough*AiriMaimi*cough*), with no change in that pattern coming in the foreseeable future. This is a good time for her to move on to a place in her life where she can do her own thing and have a chance to shine. It's a gutsy, risky move for an 18-year-old to make - to leave a fairly stable, presumably reasonably lucrative job she's been doing for years, and aim for a new direction in her life that may or may not be successful. I think that's pretty cool, personally.
I think C-ute will do great as a 5 member group. Each of the remaining members has a decent amount of talent, and being smaller will help them stand out even more from Berryz. For a while there, those two groups were pretty similar, especially for people who were just casual fans. And really, what good is a member to a group when they barely sing and are always placed in an out-of-the-way place in dances and photos? I like Erika, but in many ways, it always seemed like she was seen as being "in the way" to whoever runs C-ute. Kind of like, "Well, where can we stick her this time where she won't stand out much?"
So good luck to Erika and good luck to C-ute! I think both will benefit from this.

Finishing the tour + an actual graduation at the end = She is doing this because she wants to and not because she did anything wrong or it's anything UFA is forcing her to do.
If she was in trouble or a scandal was immenent, they wouldn't let her keep working for another 3 months and then graduate at the end of this tour.
Thus, because it's her decision, I am contented with it. Although, she'll of course be missed.
My only question is if she saw the writing on the wall after Kanna got kicked out, and decided now was a good time to jump ship.

Weird. C-ute is far from over tho. I still feel the core is there. Erika was the weird older sister to me. I loved her, don't get me wrong, but she passed on being leader and was relegated to the shadows, coming out to do her towel thing and was pretty funny in those sketches, but the core is Maimi, Airi, Chisato & MaiMai. Saki is going to get a bigger role, is growing up pretty and dances great. I wish Erika all the luck in the world, if she's smart, which it seems she is, studying the business side while she tries to be find success as a model, will nly serve her well, now and down the road.
As long as Chisato is there, everythings going to be ok...things change. especially in H!P, we should be used to this by now! lol

*Sigh* Well it can't be helped if this is what she wants to do. I guess there's more for her to discover than to just be in one group for the rest of her career. So good job for Ume trying to explore different areas in her career, I look forward to seeing her work in the future. I am REALLY sad to see another H!P member go, but unfortunately that's how things are *sigh* I'm glad she found something she wanted to do and work hard on, I think being in H!P has probably given her much experience. Good luck Ume!! ^_^ But heck, if any H!P member wants to be a model go ahead, they all have the looks for it anyway (not sure about height though lol) XD

Erika made the right decision. She had no future in C-ute. Sad but true. She's tall and pretty, so she'll do fine in modeling unlike in C-ute where her talent is never been appreciated, didn't get spotlight, the oldest yet no pb's, always seen in the side or back. She's better of without C-ute and UFA. At least in modeling she'll have the opportunity to shine. Good luck to her.

I just logged into H!O and smack right there the H!P world feels a bit more lonely. She really was one of the more fun people in the H!P family, like the big sister you like hanging around with. But over the years of spending on being a shadow on C-ute had lead her future to the inevitable. To be honest, I thought she would leave a few years later but hey, if she wants to become a fashion model then now is probably the best time to get started on it. I'm not mad or anything, but looking back, how UFA treated her position in C-ute is appalling. I guess they just stuck her around because she was originally intended to be the leader of C-ute. Having the 5 leftover C-ute members will make us feel awkward at first, because looking at them now forces us to feel more nostalgic of the departed members.

Erika Umeda, she had a nice long ride after from the moment she was chosen to be a Hello! Project Kids member, being a part the extras that became C-ute, which brought us lots of smiles and happy moments while we all see her grow up. I think we should all support her and her future endeavors.

Not sure where all of these grim predictions about the future of C-ute are coming from. I don't see this as the group self-destructing, I see it as two girls, who just happened to be part of the same group, individually deciding to move on with their lives. Erika especially - she joined H!P in 2002 when she was 11-12 years old. A LOT can change in a person that age in 7 years. Everything can change. How many of us can say our 18-year-old selves were ANYTHING like our 11-12-year-old selves? She wants something different out of life at age 18 than she did at age 11-12. There's nothing odd or meaningful about that.
C-ute's sales have been steady since the beginning, and losing the two least-popular members, who got maybe 1-2 lines per song each, and were always given the worst positions in their dances, photos, etc...isn't going to hurt the group. In fact, it may strengthen it. Nothing at all against either Kanna or Erika, but C-ute can and will get along fine without them. A smaller group definitely doesn't automatically equal a weaker or less-popular group.

Quit complaining and accept what will happen. I see Erika as someone who can't really be pictured as "c-ute" anymore. Not that she isn't cute, but her type of beauty especially now, would look much better in a magazine or on the runway than on the future singles of c-ute..shell probably have one more single and maybe even a b-side to herself?
And @atika: I doubt yurina is leaving soon, and not for the same reasons if it happens. She's totally berryz!

God.... I started crying when I read this at the Twitter box.
REALLY?!?!?! Kanna's graduation was just at July 10 or something right? and now... THIS??!?!?!!!
To explain, there isn't a rumor here (e.g. BF and etc.) but for once, I believe H!P is telling the truth (truth about the reasons members are leaving i mean.) Erika is in what... is a 3rd year high school senior in Japan now? so next year, she's graduating school.
