I think we need to calm down. There's a lot of unanswered questions here, i.e., Arisa Noto et al are not exactly "elders." Remember, also, that graduating from Hello!Project doesn't necessarily mean leaving UFA. There's also NiceGirl!Project and TNX. Or perhaps there will be a new project altogether.

There are just too many blanks left to fill in before I start to panic. This may be nothing more than a big reorganization.

First? Relax, people. These people are not "leaving" in the same sense as Ayaka and Maki Goto. They will no longer fall under the H!P label, but that doesn't mean that they will no longer be in the business. Reports that are currently coming out are indicating that they may even still all be represented by UFA. However, this may be the biggest reason why the collection albums are coming out in November.

H!P is dominated by its "Big 3" of MM, Berryz and C-ute, so this is no surprise. By no longer falling under the H!P label, these girls will be able to participate even *more* in the entertainment industry.

Elder Club will have concerts on 1/31 and 2/1 of next year as their graduation concerts. That's plenty of time to line up more work, and most of these girls have been severely under-utilized and unappreciated by H!P over the past few years, so I'm actually kind of glad to see this happen. Maybe some of them will pull an Aibon and go on to be somehow bigger and better.

Either way, I don't think this is a bad thing at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if they combined Morning Musume C-ute Berryz to make 1 unit :P

Not really surprising, they weren't really accomplishing much by sticking around except for maybe the comfort in the back of fan's minds that they were still "within the fold". I think the girls will be off doing bigger and better things. I'm happy for them. I'm sure they aren't being "pushed out" and they've had this news for awhile. Matsuura Aya's translated article from a bit back has her talking almost as if she knew about it, saying she wanted to write her own lyrics, which would be impossible under H!P, along with a few other things.

I really hope this does not backfire, though...

 2008-10-19 07:13
@jelly man: The voting thing will NEVER HAPPEN. It was a RUMOR with absolutely nothing to back it up, including common sense.

Geez, whoever posted that rumor from 2ch... Bad idea.

Also, it seems like everyone's overreacting. Some of the girls will be fine as they've already made a high amount of appearances on other shows and they don't really need H!P to gather them together every once in awhile to remind everyone that they're OG (at least the MM graduates I mean). I think the ones that are capable of staying in show business will do so and the ones that want to lead a normal life will finally be able to.

Initial reaction: Boo~!

Second reaction: Good for them. Especially great for the more talented ones. They'll finally get a chance to showcase themselves without being tied to the H!P label and image. I'm most happy for Matsuura Aya who has been maturing her own image as of late; she needs to be "released."

There are pros and cons. I'm hoping the pros outweigh the cons for the artists sake.

Goodbye!Project

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a little panic...it's good for the blood.

So, I assume they are going to shuffle them off into some newly created grouping with a new name like Elder! Project (even though several girls are actually younger than girls in MM). I’m interpreting that correctly, correct?

Obviously the girls are still working on things for UFA. I mean, Yoshi and Rika have that new Hangry whatever thing coming out. So, the girls aren't really going anywhere. Still, it sucks they won't be part of the big H!P events anymore. It sucks a lot. And when everything is under the H!P banner there’s a kind of uniformity and order to all the merchandise and song releases. It's comforting, frankly. That's gone now, for all these artists, I'm betting.

Nowadays, Matsuura Aya is massively boring to me, and that's coming from someone who is one of her biggest fans. So, if this just means that everyone will be going down that road, then Boooooooo!

Wait... WTF is going on?!?! I just read this and I still can't believe it.

I really hope they are just classifying them under a new name and making another "Project" group. If I was a girl I wouldn't want to be in the "Elder Club"... it makes you feel old. But ether way, it seems like a huge blow to have all of them leave at once. I really hope they aren't fired. Maybe they are giving the Hello!Project a refresh and giving the young girls the Hello!Pro name while all the other "graduates" get another organization to follow under.

Still... what a shocker!

My guess is that a massive re-structuring was neededto keep the company floating. Too many members not utilized at all, or just in one-time deals. Members like Satoda or Yaguchi have their own careers away from HP, and with every single graduation in the future the number will rise and rise. My guess again (as mmmdraco said) is that a lot will remain with UFA, just on different labels (Aya, Nacchi, Miki, Melon Kinenbi).
What will be lost is the family feeling that endeared us to HP. But then that feeling got lost a few years back actually.
In a way the move is quite understandabkle. What is unacceptable (at least from a Western point of view) is the poor (to say the least) information policy. Dropping a bomb like that without giving any clue to what will be happening is a slap in the face for all fans.

Like wow are you serious? dropping a whole section? Even if not under H!P label, it's still a big move by H!P.....what are they thinking?

I'm hoping some answers come up before March! I think the fans DEMAND IT!!

I'll be sad just because we won't have them in group concerts and it'll just be MoMusu/Cute/Berryz forever. BUT, I am happy that they're free to do more things like how Rika & Yossie have HANGRY & ANGRY. All of them are already keeping busy with acting, commercials, variety TV, etc. I saw Ayaya, Yossie, Rika, Yuko, Mai, and Mari on TV several times when I was in Japan. They'll be okay. They aren't being fired, at least not yet.

Kinda sad to finally see the real end of Melon Kinenbi. I wonder if those girls will stay as a group under UFA or what. I'm actually quite interested to see what the future holds!

I think it's safe to say that this is the biggest H!P news EVAR.

Well, H!P is pretty much dead to me now. 90% of Wonderful Hearts is about as boring as dirt to me, and a lot of these Elder Club members were the only thing keeping me really interested. Hopefully this is a good thing for them and their careers (which I know most of us will continue to follow), but it's a bad thing for the fans, especially how it was done so suddenly. I'll miss them in the big H!P concerts the most.

I'm about as shocked and pissed as I could possibly be at how this news was just thrown at us all of a sudden, so that's all from me until I collect my thoughts.

@Mattthecat:

Agreed. It's a bizarre scenario when they can just kind of run roughshot over all the fans, with huge a-bomb anouncements and then give absolutley no details. It would be like if you came into work one day and your boss said, "Oh, you don't work in the design department anymore, you'll be doing something else, now." And then he just walked out of your office and didn't tell you anything else. WTF? WTF, indeed.

It would be kinda retarded to just fire them, it's not like they can just go and get a normal job and leave the entertainment business altogether. Many did not pass highschool, even.

My suspicion is that they are just forming a different group apart from "H!P" to give H!P a "young feel".

As long as they are still around and still hold their own events and concerts, I don't think it is a total loss.

hmm... I still think its too early to decide if this is good or bad news... there's too little info... but, does makoto ogawa also belong in the elder club? and she's not in the list or picture...so does that mean she's not graduating from H!P?

^She's graduating as well... All Morning Musume OG's are in the elder club unless they've graduated earlier than this.

Um...until I know more, I'm not sure what to say. Sad it seems, in a nostalgic way, as seeing Ayaya and Mari and, hell, even good ol' Yuki Maeda do their thing once or twice a year all together does give the sense of "family" and is so very comforting.

But the fact is that it has gotten a little tired. Alot of the women are severely underutilized, but seeing them all at the elder club shows and shuffling up the groups for old songs to perform is just so awesome, and if that is indeed over and done with, well that is sad.

I am also , on the selfish side, upset that I was never able to see a H!P concert live with everyone all together. Now I never will it seems. I thought I might be able to go to Japan someday in the next few years and see them perform. I thought they would always just be there. But life happens and things change.

I wish them all great success and happiness whatever they chose to do and I look forward to MM, Berryz and C-ute and the Eggs and whatever else comes from Tsunku and co. The Berryz vs, C-ute concert was the show of the year so...the future looks pretty good. I just LOVE Mari and Ayaya and NAcchi and MK , etc. sooooooooooo much tho!!!! Arrrgggg...

I remember some time ago that it was said that the head of UFA was delegating his role to his daughter and that Tsunku♂ and some of the girls were not happy about it because of the plans that this new girl had for MM, Yossie, it was said, had a big argument about it and refused to follow that direction... how true this was I don't know, if I'm mistaken please let me know.
What I do remember is that little after that TNX was formed.
As I can see TNX is been getting better and Canary or The Possible are taking off really nice, just check Canary's last single it really rocks and it would perfectly be a song for MM or BK.
I think Tsunku♂ is getting the girls out from under UFA to get them under TNX and finally start getting his creation back under his wing and not depend on the decisions of some unflexible and we-just-care-for-the-money company.
He's starting with the elders which is the group of talents that UFA has really set aside, since MM, BK and °C are hitting it hard it would be more complicated but hopefully they will end up in TNX.
I hope I'm right!!
Still really sad news for me though!!

I don't really care that they're most likely being moved to a separate thing under UFA. It just makes me angry that the elder members, the ones who ###### got H!P to where it is now, are just being tossed out like nothing more than trash. I know, I know it'll be better for them in the long run, but... fldkfjgh. GRR.

And I love the younger members like everyone else does (obviously, given my Sayu obsession), but seriously, so many of the Kids have that same attitude towards their elders and it's disgusting. Way to show them that the founding members of H!P deserve respect, amirite?

But judging by Satoda Mai's new single, she's already getting to work with awesome people like misono, so that cheers me up a bit. It isn't as bad as people are making it out to be, yeah, but it's still incredibly sad.

I think the idea of a reorganization in itself is probably a good thing, HP was getting too big. I also totally agree UFA are pretty bad at managing news (well we already knew it), but like a few other said the probability of the creation of a new "label" would not be astonishing. Some Elders could live by themselves without any problem (like Yaguchi Mari) but there are some I do not see alone (for instance Miyoshi Erika or Okada Yui).

Another thing that was not mentioned in the translation is that for the fan club, more information about the FC's future will be given in the November mailing (in the first day of November), but before that they will not answer any question concerning what will happen to the fan club. I think that means that we will see later some other announcements about what is going to happen to the Elders.
