It's school-year thinking, not actual birth year. They would have been in the same grade.
Of course, the -name- still doesn't make sense, but at least there is a kernel of reason.
FWIW "Small Glasses" is "kogara-z" is "small figure" or "small body" and the "z" at the end is plural
