That stinks. I'm surprised they are missing an opportunity to make money. I assume up front has yet to comment on the decision?

if the video is blocked, change www.youtube to ssyoutube and you will get a download. If you get the downloader prompt, it is spam, keep hitting the blue submit button until you get the download.

Youtube is blocking the videos because Up-Front hasn't signed the new Youtube Red contract, so it's true that signing up to Youtube Red doesn't give the user access to the blocked videos. Of course Youtube is putting the blame onto the media companies (like Up-Front), but Youtube changed the rules and is forcing everyone to sign the new contract or else have their videos blocked in the US. It's possible UFP has other contractual obligations that make it difficult to sign the Youtube Red contract, similar to what we saw with ESPN (who removed all their videos from Youtube). We'll just have to wait and see.

As Youtube Red rolls out to the rest of the world, those countries will also experience the videos being blocked by Youtube (unless UFP signs the contract).

God this sucks so bad. A lot of their video views (and revenue they're getting from ads) come from outside of Japan, especially US. We may not be a huge contributor, but most foreign fans get to know H!p through youtube, and I can't imagine they want to lose that revenue source.

Up Front Link tweeted that they are working on the issue https://twitter.com/upfrontlink/status/661788532587954176

^ Not terribly bad all other things considered, but even Western artists using smaller record labels were affected. Guess another legal waiting game, I guess.

"She said it is up to the provider whether to allow the videos to be seen on Youtube and that Youtube has no say so in the matter."

It's true, YouTube has no say in whether they DO WHAT WE SAY, OR ELSE.

No Up-Front. No AKB48 Groups. I think Avex artists (don't hold me to that). BABYMETAL vids still work so I guess Amuse signed the contract.

For now you can just download it as I mention. change www.youtube to ssyoutube and refresh until you get the download link.

Some companies have said that they just need more time to negotiate and update their terms, but their content will be blocked while they do that. So I'm hoping this is temporary.

In the meantime... The Betternet app for smartphones (ios/android) seem to work well if you're into mobile Youtube browsing. For desktop viewing, Softether VPN client works well if you can find a good VPN server with it. I prefer this over downloading as long as it's working well.

When access to something is restricted, it just makes it more thrillingly justified to find 'work arounds' and engage in piracy. There's a certain little victory in finding a way to get around rules, after all, the adage that states that they were meant to be broken is rather old. Hopefully, this too will pass without much dragging of their feet.

Upfront sent me a message. They have staff working with YouTube on contract issues right now.....

YouTube however refuses to respond to me. They know what they did is horrible and they don't want to face the public about it.

YouTube Red lets subscribers to store and view videos offline. This is probably what is holding up the entire deal not just with UPF but other JP music production companies.

I know a lot of company's are having problems with not making as much money from commercials as well as being forced to make exclusive content for YouTube red customers.

If UPF could take YouTube Red money and make a hello morning type TV show as their exclusive content and have like a sign up link that they get extra credit for subs, they will have my money.

YouTube has blocked their content from us, not because we're not subscribed to YouTube Red, but because they haven't signed the YouTube Red Terms & Conditions contract. Once this is done, Up-Front Music Videos will be available to us again so long as they don't mark them as exclusive content, which I'm almost positive will not happen. UP-FRONT has been replying to messages and tweets from US fans. They've said that they have been trying to resolve the issue since the day the content was blocked, and that they're waiting for YouTube's reply. I'm not too sure if this means that they have issues with the contract and are asking questions about it and waiting for a reply, or if this means that they've agreed to the Terms & Conditions / signed the contract but YouTube hasn't verified it yet. I'm hoping it's the latter so that the deal is set and we're able to watch the MVs again without having to use these janky proxy's, and so that it'll prevent other countries from experiencing this inconvenience when YouTube Red launches worldwide next year. We just need to hope that if Up-Front is having issues with the contract, that they are resolved quickly. I wouldn't be able to stand for all these precious MVs to be hard-to-access forever.

Well this is weird. I'm currently in the P.R. China and am using a secure VPN to connect to a server in LA. Youtube should not be able to tell I am anywhere but in America.Yet I am having no problem with blocked content. However a colleague of mine that literally sits two desks away from me and uses the same service is having a problem with blocked content on Youtube.

^^Rights for these things can get pretty complicated. It's not necessarily just a matter of negotiating with YT. Like ESPN for example doesn't have full control over all the rights in their uploads so they had to negotiate for all new rights with the holders. They couldn't get them so they are gone. YouTube Red requires a new set of Rights. UF might not be able to do this at all, whether they want to or not, if they can't get those new rights.
