Eh... Berryz AND C-ute? I always thought they put in more "up and coming" or "one-time special" H!P acts, like with W and Def. Diva. I'd much rather see Ongaku Gatas performing on Kouhaku with the kids dancing in the back as usual. I really would not mind that. What did the H!P sector even do last year? I can't remember; I never watched it. No point without Makoto.

Worst of all, this means KOUHAKU WITHOUT YOSSI. NOT ON. UNFORGIVABLE. I bite my thumb at NHK.

will it be possible to watch it live via internet?

Outside Japan, you can watch Kouhaku live on NHK World, or (in North America) NHK's "TV Japan" network. I don't think it's available live via the internet, at least it hasn't been in the past.

I'm soo happy they get to be on as their own groups and just like last year, i'll watch them on satellite TV Japan and download the full concert from JpopSuki. Good luck and grats to them all.

it seems as if berryz were more emotional...since they've debuted longer...c-ute raise to popularity much faster so not as moved by the news?

Congratulations, girls. You done good.

@mochi9460: I don't think that's true. They just have different ways of showing their excitement. C-ute jump and scream, Berryz tremble and cry. It's all good.

Hopefully this helps Red win this year. Oddly enough Nakai from Utaban is the Red team's captain but performing for the White team.

Anyone else think it'll be a medley like years past? As soon as it pops up on jpopsuki I'm all over it. Too much trouble to bother watching it (with gobs of commercials and enka singers) on KIKU the day after.

Why no DJ Ozma? j/k

I'm not a huge fan of C-ute or Berryz (casual fan at best), so I'm not that excited, but good for them all the same! Both groups have appeared a few times as dancers, but they've never performed as artists. They are both hardworking groups and deserve a real place on the red team.

I'm more excited about the tribute to MoMusu. That should be good.

Also, this is the first time in quite a few years that Ayaya will not be appearing on the show. It's hardly a surprise considering the fact that she hasn't released much this year and her sales have plummeted, but it's kind of a shame.

Kouhaku 2003 is how I first discovered Morning Musume/Hello! Project (Go Girl ~Koi no Victory~ grabbed me and wouldn't let go), so I always get excited about each year's show! Can't wait!

YAY!! Congrats to both Berryz and C-ute. I'm looking forward to this year's Kohaku very much now.(●^ー^)b// Oh, by the way, I remember reading this on wikipedia a long time ago, "Kōhaku Uta Gassen --- youngest participant – 12 year old Kago Ai (51st Kōhaku – December 31, 2000)". So I'm curious,,, Mai-chan from C-ute is only 11 years old this year, will she surpass Aibon in this?? Just wondering. LOL.

Berryz Koubou? C-ute? Shocotan? AKB48? SWEET HELL. <3 <3 <3 <3

I knew Momusu would be on there, of course, but these new additions make it that much better. Ohh I'm really excited, now, I can't wait for New Years.

Aww I guess MM isnt the only girl group on the show anymore, Cute and Berryz is fine but Akb48 is kinda their competitors right? Anywho, you would think the active OG members would be on the show cause the OG members will be on this years FNS Music Festival, but Ayaya will be on this show however not on Kouhaku. lol I'll probably do what Ive been doing and dl their segments but not watch till the show airs here on New Years Day.

that's so great for them. I'm glad they took berryz and cute and not just cute. There were rumors that only Cute had been accepted. I think that might be why Berryz were more emotional, because Cute thought they might get it while Berryz thought they wouldn't.

YAY, now that will be a good ending to this rather "spectacular" year. Congratz to C-ute and Berryz! All's well that ends well. =P

Now where the heck is YUI? When does she get her Kouhaku appearance?! (>_<)

Woah! This will be nice, surely Kouhaku this year will be interesting again. Maybe NHK decided to take in more of the group-type JPOP artists rather than the solo artists from H!P.

And, hey, it's Leah Dizon (yum yum), only a year after her debut and it's on to Kouhaku for her

I hope Berryz performs "Special Generation". They do that very well live. I am still learning about Berryz but that song is so solid. Highly recommended. I am just happy for everyone in the lineup. And I can't wait to see MM do their stuff. I am just very happy about all of this.

No YUI is rather strange but then again the selection process seems arbitrary since in addition to artists who've done well in the past year they dust off and drag out a lot of people who seem to have been hiding in caves or developed allergies to recording studios just because they've been around a while. Yay also for Angela Aki and Otsuka Ai getting invites.

Doubtful anyone will sub the entire show since it's like 4 hours long. Hearing the OG members will be on a show while making an appearance highly improbable will be nice just like how a lot of the Johnny's guys have their own show around the same time as well which is probably why they don't really show up for the most part.

Either way this seems like perfect timing since after avoiding Berryz and C-ute for a while their catchy songs and a few subbed appearances have started pulling me in a little. Kind of same for AKB48 although I still have no clue who all of them are.

Cool, good for Momusus. I originally thought they weren't able to participate in this years Kouhaku due to some negative issues occured in the first half of year 2007.
Mornig Musume rock on! XD

Haha! Everytime I'm impressed. So many artists at the same place (*^o^*)
But, hey... Would Gomaki be in the public too?
It's the end of the year, and a long time we don't have news... (°^°) {???}

well, i don't know. can't say i really care about either Berryz or C-ute. i'm disappointed not to see Matsuura there, but i guess her sales finally sunk too low or something. unfortunately. :(

@Ronin: yeah! where's YUI?! >_<* i'm really glad to see ayaka and Otsuka there again, but come on! YUI's become really big this year. what's wrong with them? no YUI = me pissed. *mumbles harsh words about NHK*

oh, and yeah. MM is there. of course. was anyone actually believing they wouldn't? if they are going to miss a year it would certainly not make sense to pick their 10th anniversary year.

I'm surprised that everyone is so shocked about Ayaya. She hasn't performed as a solo artist since 2004, and even then she was supposed to be performing as part of Nochiura Natsumi before Nacchi's scandal caused Maki and Ayaya to go on without her. She's just been in groups, like with DEF.DIVA and GAM.

Anyway, MoMusu OG and Ayaya are on FNS Kayousai tonight at least. It's not as big as Kouhaku, but it's another annual music show of hugeness that I will be watching for sure in 3 hours. Yay!

Silverglade ~ Unlikely. Most of the time when appearing on Kouhaku, the artist will perform a song from that year. Sometimes there'll be medleys of older songs though, as MoMusu has done.

AKB48 is sorta the Nemesis of Momuse shikitty, well its not really acurate either, but its the same idea on another level, H!P Momuse is prolly the stronger ones, with virtue as prime "object", where AKB48 well you will see them cry act weird and such during makeing offs and photo shoots.

so not really anything to do with H!P except being the nemesis sorta :p

>megchan< Maimi was announced to be part of a duet with Nacchi so she might have been there at rehersal or something and therefore had to miss the kouhaku announcement.

Well I have to say that this is not a surprise for me, Berryz and C-ute have been doing so well that it was a must for kouhaku this year. Berryz already deserved to be there since they have been the real competition for Momusu (in my opinion, ofcourse), now C-ute also has been doing great since their debut and come strong after Berryz.

I'm so happy for AKB, It took me a while to erase the "momusu rivals" label that I had tagged on them but finally I have come to like them a lot.

I can't wait to see their performances!

Congrats to C-ute and Berryz, but let's face facts folks, Berryz really doesn't deserve to be there. This is based strictly on sales figures. Berryz is probably only there because C-ute was legitimately invited, and UFA insisted on having Berryz invited too.
