What I kind of don't understand is that she must have been working WAY more hours when she was in MM during it's heyday (more TV appearances, more singles to promote, hello morning to film, commercials, etc) but she didn't quit because of being overworked then. I think it's more like she has some ongoing health problems which are aggravated by the high-energy work that she's doing.

I will give H!O the benefit of the doubt, but I don't believe in anonymous internet news. And the fact that you coupled this "secret yakuza source we can't reveal or they and us will die" with very inaccurate info about Aichan flying from Korea because of the "news" is what made me be skeptical in the first place. But this "007 secret stuff" is getting annoying,

You're right to question that Takahashi blurb. After talking to the writer of that article (a non-native English speaker), I was able to reword it to be closer to what was intended:
- It was reported that Takahashi Ai cried aloud in front of the staff in Korea when she learned about Goto Maki's graduation. After arriving back in Japan with the rest of Morning Musume, she attended Maki's final concert.

Hello.
Ooooook, just hold your horses now. I have a questions here, not excatly about the sources of this news, just some basic points.
Ok, its rumored Maki its out of UFA and signed with some other agency (or want to resing with other agency): Q.- She can do that??? I remember some person told me here, some time ago, that its not so easy for Idols to quit and resign with other agency, that time we where talking about Miki Fujimoto. So... Maki can do that? Quit at will from UFA and take/seek the offer from other agency?
I just want to know more about how that things works, just to understand better this mess.
Now, in a personal note, I really want this to be true, Maki deserves a new begining.
See ya.

I believe every words of this. It makes perfect sense. One thing I personally notice is the recent video have been quite suggestive and she doens't act like th suggestive type. She is usually very quiet, and respectful, so I think she might be unconfortable with her recent looks as well. All and all, she will still be around, just not with upfront. Hopefully this will make upfront treats their employee better.

I've always said that if Avex had picked up Gomaki before UFA that she would have overshadowed a lot of other acts. She'd probably be in a similar position that, ironically, Ku is right now. Anyhow, I hope that they pick her up now and can give her popularity a shot in the arm.

To all of you saying "UFA is overworking them, they should go somewhere else" do you really, really, believe that AVEX or any other japanese label doesn't do the same thing to their artists? Do AVEX artist don't have the same TV, radio, CM, recording and concert tour schedules, and sometimes even more? Most japanese labels, speciially the big ones, work in the exact same way. They have to promote the artists, they have to go to TV shows, they have to go to radio shows, they have to do recording sessions, they have to rehearse dances for PVs and performances and concerts, they still have to go on tour.... So if Maki's illness was produced by her work schedule, she would have the same conditions wherever she goes, and maybe even more, if she goes to AVEX and have to stand up among Hamasaki and Kumi and Utada.

reyfer: I think you're right but... Maybe she can be agree with the other label for her health and they have to be flexible because is a human not a robot... maybe she had to do that decision because UFA were not worried for the health of their girls, you could see when she was ill and she had not enough time or days for rest... I think that!

If you check back on her blog, and check back on H!P Official site's past news, you'll see they ALWAYS gave her time when she felt not well. They rescheduled and canceled performances many times. What I'm saying is, UFA may be assholes, but they are also business people, and it goes against their business to not care for their artists health. I believe Maki had differences with UFA about her career and where she wants to be, and that is the reason for her to leave, but saying that UFA is a slave factory and that they are killing the girls working with them is, simply put, ridiculous. Why doesn't any of the girls that are out of H!P and UFA tell about it if it is that way? Why don't alert others about it? In my opinion, and I stress this, IT IS MY OPINION, she had some previous underlying health issues that grew bigger because of work schedule AND stress at her conceptual differences with UFA. And she needs a break. But think of this: all H!P girls have families, those families have friends, girls talk to family and family talks to friends, if UFA is the slave factory you portray, don't you think somebody would have blown the whistle by now? Specially the ones that are already out and have reasons to bitch about UFA like, you guessed, Kago?

They didn't really give her time as much as they had no choice...she probably couldn't have performed in the pain during some of those times anyway. Anyway, it seems like Maki made a clean break so I don't think theres any serious grudge or anything like that, I'm sure she's sad to leave but also excited.

I believe this. It makes a lot more sense, anyway. At her birthday concert, she cried when she saw everyone with blue glowsticks for her birthday during the encore (I was happy to be one of them!). I think her tears were partially how sweet the fans were and also because she knew she was graduating soon and was so happy to have such supportive fans. :( Tictac_Eri ~ It's not just albums and tours. Maki had been doing an advertising campaign for SanDisk, was in a musical earlier this year, was ALSO doing MoMusu 10th appearances and their tour (which she got sick on), and then like two weeks after the MoMusu 10th tour ended she started her tour (I believe the MoMusu 10th tour ended September 2nd and her tour started September 15th, so just under two weeks). I can't imagine how much rehearsing that would take -- she was also recording her album around then, and mentioned on her blog how it was hard to memorize all her new lyrics and I don't blame her! Also with all this, she was making other TV appearances and whatever else I hadn't heard about. I mean, I know a lot of the other girls do a lot of work, but I can't think of many of them that are quite that busy. I mean, Nacchi, Risa, and Koharu were busy with their regular work plus MoMusu 10th as well, but they got longer breaks before they had to be in another tour afterwards, at least...

I wonder... I don't understand. If the work is so hard why don't more people quit? I mean yeah goto is popular but arent Aya & Momusu more popular? don't they work longer and harder? is her heath problem really why she quit or is it that she is being a bit of a drama queen? I know that Up front is tough but maybe there were other issues that we never knew about like money. she may be lying to make her sound good( no about her health but about hp) I mean we don't really know her and as mush as her fans may hate me for saying this it needs to be said. She is a human first and not everybody is a good person. I don't hate goto but even when a star says something directly they could still be lying. I mean people thought tsuji was this single sweet little virgin who has never dated and though boys were icky but she had a boyfriend & is about to hae a beautiful baby. She is a human. Look at Iida & Miki & Kago. They are real people. Get over it. just like normal people, lovers & liars I wish people would take them serious & let up on those dating & crap rules.

Sorry Shining, but it was not directed at you, I was addressing ALL previous comments about how bad UFA is to the girls. I'm not pissed, I don't even know the girls personally, nor am I a UFA executive. It is just that I see so many post by people saying "she got sick because UFA overworked her" and it makes me remember that some of those same people not long ago were saying "Hey, why is UFA not doing more with Maki? Why isn't there more promotions, or more TV appearances, or why is the tour so short?". IF (a big if) UFA overworked her, it is because of those demands by fans. So we all, UFA and fans, are to blame. Thing is, I exposed the same ideas before, and nobody seemed to listen, so I used a more serious language, but I'm not pissed, specially not at you.

So she thinks that if she quits UFA and joins another company that she will have LESS work? If she wants to build back up her status and continue getting good sales, it's gonna take a lot more work than she has been doing. She already had a place with H!P; she had fans who would buy whatever she released because she was their idol. If this is a true article, then I think she must either be kinda dumb or she thinks she is sooo good that she will not have to work hard to get a good rep. Either way, I loved her since 99 and will continue to support if she continues her career. <3

Actually, that's not true, reyfer, it's not their fault, because nobody gives a crap about overseas fans. :P
There's a good chance that Avex stars might not be overworked. Considering the earlier story aibon's mom gave the whole "overworked and underpaid" thing does ring true. Avex might give the same amount of hours work but they also might make those hour less stressful.
And the people who are saying those things are saying that because they wanted to see more of her, at that time when they were saying those things they probably weren't aware of the stress level and so did not apply it.
When it's brought up how I'm not going to get to see any of Aibon anymore, I'm saddened by this. When it's brought up that she was overworked when in h!p, it also saddens me. It's situational and not contradictory in the least.
We h!p fans are put into an interesting position. We want to see more of our favorite idols, but we want them as much job comfort as possible. If companies weren't so overbearing we could have our cake and eat it too.
Idols, are basically a bunch of overworked, underpaid, underrepresented and over judged group of people.
