NOOO THE MELONS!!!!!!!!!! D: AAAGH and I thought they were more active than ever!!

:( They were so great live... gotta miss them. They deserved a lot more than they had.

They were all so great, and I really really loved Shibata ;__;

AWW MAN what a waste of talent.

UFA really doesn't know how to promote their best singers, it's always the more cute ones or less better singers who get the more limelight.

they will be missed.
goodluck to them all!

Crap. That was unexpected...

The most interesting HP band left calls it quits. What a shame :(

like all true legends they shall take their place amongst the stars, in a constellation of a great sea serpent, and will forever be at odin's side.

Just read their statement, i suppose they would want to get on with their future [off work time] perhaps spend more time with their families or romance XD

aww gutted but it was meant to happen someday.

I have to say, I think it's better they end now when they've released a good album and they have a concert coming up then say five years from now when they've completely burned out. I was never a huge fan of Melon Kinenbi, but I did like their music and had a huge amount of respect for them.

On the bright side, maybe some members will release a solo? That'd be cool! =D

My goodness! What happened to "Melon's Not Dead"???

Now, MM becomes the one H!P or former H!P group with the most stable membership; and, since it seems there's going to be no audition to replaced Koharu, perhaps their announcement is coming next.

As Tsunku nears retirement age, it seems that all his loose ends are being spun off.

Remember that the Eggs were originally supposed to be a seed-bed for new members of H!P groups, so there could be turnover without diminishing the members (in much the same way that Research Students keep supplying AKB with new members following one of their surprise graduations). But once it became clear that Eggs wasn't going to be used that way, I had an ominous feeling that H!P's groups were heading for a dead end (e.g., why would you leave Arisa Noto in Eggs until she was 20 years old, when she could have injected new excitement into MM years ago?). And I doubt that an announcement of a big H!P audition would draw the kind of excitement it used to.

It seems to me that the whole thing is just being allowed to "peter out" without much fanfare. If you consider that 2005's "Happy New Power" concert (IMO the greatest H!P conert ever) represented Hello! Project at the height of it's power, it's been quite a rapid decline since then.

The head stone should read: "Died of a Bad Business Model."

Hey... isn't Berryz the most stable H!P group now?

^I think you have some reason, his last pitches were good ... and I think it is better to keep a good memory of them, and they are separated by a decision that when the public does not want them anymore.

is sad ..
Melon Kinenbi was my favorite band ....
but I have no more than continue to support ...
Melon Kinenbi Long live!

forgiveness for the bad English

That makes SO MUCH sense.

I find it ironic that after releasing an album called "Melon's Not Dead", the group dies/breaks up.

Strange title if they knew going in that this would be it for them. If that wasn't the plan, makes me wonder what happened to spur on the decision. This sucks. I remember when they got rid of elders club (which I still haven't got over) I was so happy when Melon announced they were still going to be a group, it took a little of the sting away. OUCH! It hurts again.

Wow. I can't help but find this sad, even if it was the right thing to do. I've always really liked Shibata, so hopefully she won't just fade away... =[

Regardless, I wish the best of luck and happiness to all the members; they deserve it.

VERY sad news, especially since I've been a Melon fan forever! But really, 10 years in the idol business without a member change is a pretty good track record IMO. I really hope that they don't completely vanish into oblivion though...MASAEEEEEEEE~!!!!!! ;____;

Congratulations to them on ten great years, and best wishes to them in their new adventures. The idol lifestyle isn't one that can be sustained forever and as fun as I'm sure it's been for them there is more to life. Hopefully they'll find everything they're looking for =)

10 years without a member change. Truly an amazing feat for a H!P group. I guess now they're off to do better things after their tour ends. Best Wishes Melons~~!

Wow, this is so sudden... I didn't expect this at all... I wasn't the biggest Melon Kinenbi fan, but I really liked them. I'll miss them as a group and I wish them the best of luck.

As for the title Melon is not Dead, actually, I think that makes even more sense now! Melon Kinenbi will live forever in our memories, and whenever we listen to them. :)

To shed some light on the "Melons Not Dead" thing;

Perhaps it's meant to be taken as "We are going our separate ways, but Melon's not dead. We will live on through our past hits and we will continue our Melon spirit. Melon Kinenbi will NEVER die."

That's how I take it at least. ^.^

Sorry to hear that they're disbanding - I always saw them as being archetypal group for the UFA / H!P ethos - supporting their girls for as long as the girls wanted to continue - irrespective of sales: in it for the music and fans rather than mass-popularity (although it would have been nice). And some of their songs were undeniably catchy (Kawaii Kare, especially, imo - I love it!).
And their ever-presence in H!P seemed to give an air of security to everything else - that security was there despite not necessarily being the most popular.
And now they have decided to move on.

Thank you, MK.
May you all have success in your next endeavours.

aaaw that's really something. I had high hopes that after leaving the H!P mantle they'll be able to be more active. And they started out so great last year.

I still hope they'll make their way in whatever way they plan on doing it.

Good Luck and ganbare!
