My mom said she made this mistake when she was in middle school
By the way she did highest-level post-grad interpreter work

'Pan' is Portuguese, right?
So that makes the whole question of translating it into English really funny

15: 腕ひしぎ十字固め(東京都) 2013/11/06(水) 18:52:22.49 ID:+WkkPXRr0
Was it Portuguese?
Doesn't it seem just a little Dutch.

In French it's still pan but it's spelled 'pain'

I remember around when I was in my first year of middle school, I wrote 'enpitsu' as 'pensil' and I got a 99

That's when I started to hate English

'pan' is the only thing put forth, but
・'eatin' is somewhat cryptic
・I'm puzzled why there is fill-in-the-blank on a college-level English test
But really this is such a basic level

It's not 'eatin' but 'eat in~' isn't it?

'eat in' is probably waseieego****?
Normally you use "for here" with "I'm going to eat in the restaurant"
'eat in' is typically used when one is eating at home.
I mean I don't think they'd ask for that sort of meaning on an F-level test, but... still, that picture is just nonsense lol

In America at least

What, is Kanon-chan already a college student?
I'm actually more surprised by that than anything

Spanish and Portuguese

A lot of notes on this one:
*The word for bread in Japanese is written in katakana, pronounced as 'pan,' and this poster used the kanji version of 'pan' which means cooking pan albeit with the same pronunciation
**Yamazaki is a major bread company in Japan
***This whole bit is a joke about Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal," which, to Japanese ears, can have this sequence of Japanese words. Read the transcription and watch this video to hear the spots they're talking about:

****Wasei-eego are words of Japanese origin that have some resemblance to English words with relatively little correlation between the contextual meaning of the two. "Idol" versus "Aidoru" can be defined as wasei-eego.

She even wrote "eatin"

Thanks for this XD

Thank you!

The misheard smooth criminal is gold.

That smooth criminal vid is great
