Eir Aoi's Comeback! This is something that came totally out of nowhere, and I certainly didn’t expect it. Toward the end of 2016, anisong singer Eir Aoi put her career on hiatus. According to her announcement, she did it due to a health issue. They weren’t any more specific than that, and I wondered what her condition was. (If you aren’t familiar with Eir Aoi, she has had a number of hit theme songs for animes, and she has a large international fanbase.)

The entirety of 2017 came and went. Suddenly, in March, a blue light appeared on her website. The fans got really excited. Sure enough, shortly thereafter, they announced that she was going to return to the music industry. In April, she released a new single, “Yakusoku,” or “Promise” (in English).

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to see the music video for the song. It is blocked in my country, i.e., the U.S. Anyway, I am very pleased to find out that Eir Aoi is well enough to continue with her recording career. They also announced a concert at Nippon Budokan, to be held on Aug. 16, 2018. This was where she held her final concert before pausing her career for 15 months, so such a concert is very apropos.

Eir Aoi had a digital release of another song, “Ryusei,” or “Meteor” in English. On May 7, she reopened her fan club and her website, Eirland.

This was all great and uplifting news for me. Eir Aoi is the only Japanese singer I have met in person. That was at J-Pop Expo 2015 in San Francisco. I was fortunate to be able to get my picture taken with her, too.

I am so glad that Eir Aoi is active again, and I wish her the best of luck in her career!
