Sixth-gen Morning Musume member Michishige Sayumi has been appearing on TV variety shows more and more these days. TV Guide has a short article and interview with Sayu that talks about this, and we have a full translation right here!
Note: We've made a correction to the translation, our apologies. Much thanks to yuno for pointing it out to us! |

Michishige Sayumi
Morning Musume's venom-tongued member is taking the variety world by storm!!

Appearing in the Kakuzuke [ranking] corner on "London Hearts" (TV Asahi) and in other shows, she spits black poison at the co-starring female celebrities and actresses. When they fight back with a sharp tsukkomi, she doesn't flinch, saying, "Well, I'm the cutest one anyway..." This is the unique personality of Michishige Sayumi (Morning Musume), who keeps appearing on more and more variety shows.
"I'm getting more chances for solo appearances in TV shows, but my appearance on London Hearts got the biggest feedback. People around me said things like, "You told them!" or "Good job!" But that's people who are close to me, so their opinion might've been biased. Therefore, I searched the net for "Michishige Sayumi", and it looked like there were lots of different opinions (laughs). "
It's good to see you're not becoming too stressed over any mixed receptions. By the way, since when have you become such a sharp-tongued [black/dark] character?
"I've been told that from the very beginning. Like, "You've got a big mouth!" (laughs) Actually, if I don't think about the consequences while I'm talking, it just turns out like this. Even leading up to now, I've been talking like this on radio shows or concert MC segments. So, I think for people who've been my fans, its just like, 'Oh, now she's bringing that to the TV screen as well.'"
So, you're actually a nice person, but like to play the villain. The conclusion of this interview might be "bad girl"...
"I'm like a stratum! People tell me that I look cutesy and ladylike at first glance, but when I start to talk, I spit the poison around. But in reality, my true self is a pure and "good" girl. So, I'm a three-layered stratum!"
We'll be praying that there's no fourth layer (laughs), and we'll look forward to your next appearances.

More ZOOM!!
"I'd like Usachan Peace to be used worldwide!" She's been saying since her debut that she wants to spread the Usachan Peace gesture worldwide, but even within Japan, it's still more or less unknown. If you happen to meet Sayumi-chan somewhere, try to do it. Maybe she'll do it happily in return ...?!

[Text from the lower-right corner:]
The swift assaults of the venom-tongued Musume are still continuing! In her two appearances on London Hearts, she didn't chicken out against opponents as tough as Kokushou Sayuri, Aoki Sayaka or misono. Or, better said, she surprised the other guests and the audience with her quick and hard-hitting replies. Let's look forward to her next battles! Next appearance: Obaka Japan! (TV Tokyo, Thursday, September 10th) |
