  MilkyWay "Tan Tan Taan!" interview
  Hello!Project Written by epifanes & Kuno , updated: 17:22, 16-Dec 2008

Q: Kusumi-san, you've been in Kirarin Revolution for three years now, right?

Kusumi: I keep thinking, "This is the last one" all the time (laughs). The time really flies. Just recently, I noticed the script's headline said: "Hundred-something episode". I was surprised, thinking, "Have I really done that many episodes!?"(laughs)

Q: Do you feel like you share "one body, one mind" with Kirarin?

Kusumi: There were many aspects that we shared together from the start, but in these three years, I tried to make the character get closer to me, and make myself get closer to it, until they overlapped. In the beginning, I was using a voice that was too high-pitched (laughs). It's because I thought idols should have high-pitched voice, so I pushed my normal voice to an even higher pitch. It resulted in something that was hard to listen to (laughs).

Q: Kikkawa-san and Kitahara-san, do you have something in common with your characters?

Kitahara: Well, Noeru can run 100m in 10.5 seconds and is good in sports, but almost everything else is the same. I'm also usually the tsukkomi, and poking timing and laughter placement is completely the same. Also, in the scene where I got betrayed by Claudy and was furious with anger...I think I'd act the same way if I got angry (laughs).
Kikkawa: Kobeni always says strange-sounding things, and is being poked because of that. I say strange things when I talk, too (laughs). I'm also being poked, so that's where I'm overlapping with Kobeni.
Kusumi: A typical example of natural airhead (laughs). During live rehearsal, when she tried to walk down the stairs, she fell down screaming. I mean, falling down from a four-step stairway is a little bit... (laughs).

Q: As for "Tan!Tan!Taan!", it sounds like a light song, but doesn't it contain a resounding feeling within it?

Kitahara: That's right! Especially the part in the chorus, "Say goodbye to worries". When I'm worrying about something, or I feel down, I listen to this song and it makes me feel better.
Kusumi: At first, the song starts with sort of a cloudy mood, but as it approaches the chorus, it clears away rapidly. It's a song with a story inside.
Kikkawa: And the part, "The three of us don't need to fear anything" reminds me of Milky Way, with every members' personality working together as a group.
Kusumi: And this time, there are many parts where all three of us are overlapping, so this is definitely a song only Milky Way can sing. Our personalities are completely different and not on the same wavelength though (laughs). But we can definitely get on the same frequency during singing.
Kitahara: It's also good feeling to know how well we can relieve one another during dancing.
Kikkawa: We're like Senju Kannon [the thousand-armed Goddess of Compassion]. But we need to be careful so the tambourine's cord doesn't twist around us (laughs)

Q: There's also a funny place in the lyrics that says, "If I would name my good points...I'd probably end up with no more than five."

Kusumi: I couldn't name even five of mine. Maybe only that I have many dark moles? (laughs)
Kitahara: Well, I can name many good points of Kusumi-san. For example: she's always smiling, she makes everything around her happier, she won't show when she's tired and she eats a lot! (laughs)
Kusumi: I always have to have something in my mouth, otherwise I can't calm down! (laughs)
Kikkawa: If I don't understand anything in the dance or dubbing sessions, she'll come and explain it to me. She's a good senpai.
Kusumi: Both of them have many good points. Once Saaya learns the dance, she'll always perform it flawlessly. Also, she writes down many things in her dubbing script, so that shows she's taking it seriously.
Kikkawa: She's younger than me, but I can always lean on her. Like she always tells me when we are starting to dance during lessons.
Kitahara: Because she wouldn't start moving without it. (laughs) But it's fun with Kikka being around. She always comes and talk to me. Let's not mention whether it's an interesting chat or not (laughs), but she's being friendly.
Kikkawa: I'm Kikkawa Yuu, also known as KY (laughs). [KY = kuuki yomenai: someone who can't read the mood]
Kusumi: I know now that they're different than they appear. I thought Saaya was a cold person, saying things like "Phew!" and stuff, while Kikka is a young lady from good family (laughs). But they're not cold, they're really cheerful.

Q: Was there anything you were bearing in mind during the recording and preparation stage?

Kusumi: I kept chewing candies all the time to protect my throat (laughs). Also, I was thinking about how I should sing to keep the balance with the others' parts. Actually, I've been caressing every line of mine more than usual.
Kikkawa: The first thing I do when I enter the recording booth is to attach my lyrics card firmly.
Kusumi: Everyone does that! (laughs)
Kikkawa: This is different! I do it because touching something is the only way I can stop being nervous.
Kitahara: I was told to sing cheerfully, so I sang it with the image of myself jumping and smiling. When I came to the part "One, two, tan tan taan!", I already felt the vibe, but it's forbidden to clap hands in the booth (laughs), so I was just singing cheerfully.

Q: Please tell us what you're looking forward to this winter.

Kusumi: There is a KiraRevo recording session planned around Xmas time, so I'm looking forward to having a KiraRevo celebration cake with everyone.
Kitahara: Otoshidama [New Year's money gift] for me (laughs). I like getting otoshidama, eating mochi, meeting my classmates and everyone in Eggs while wishing them "Happy New Year". This all makes me feel there's yet another year coming.
Kikkawa: I want to meet Santa-san during Christmas! Recently, I started to believe in him (laughs). I have something I'm hoping to get. A toy poodle.
Kusumi: We have a dog at home.
Kikkawa: I'm sure Santa-san exists, so I want to get a toy poodle as a great finish to the year. If he won't bring it to me, I get one from Kusumi-san!
Kusumi: No way (laughs). Don't you dare talk about stealin' our dog! (laughs).
