Lehua Sandbo (former Coconuts Musume) wins Mrs. Hawaii USA Pageant
  Hello!Project Written by Mizer , updated: 3:57, 19-Jul 2008

Former Coconuts Musume member Lehua Sandbo Nahina has been crowned Mrs. Hawaii-USA, and will go on to compete at the Mrs. United States National pageant on July 25, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to the Hawaiian publication Midweek, Lehua, representing her locality of the North Shore - where she lives with her "carpenter/pro surfer" husband Kapono Nahina and their 4-year old daughter - won the statewide title on June 3.

In an interview with the Honolulu Advertiser, 25-year old nursing student Lehua revealed that she lost 30 pounds earlier this year to return to modeling before she was persuaded to try the pageant circuit. Her pageant platform is to draw attention to homeless families, such as those she has helped through her church in the North Shore. The article also mentions her experience in the group Coconuts Musume - described, with a bit of hyperbole, as "wildly popular" in Japan - as an experience that left her "homesick, tired and extremely depressed" by the end of her 3-year stint.

The Mrs. United States National Pageant will take place from July 20 thru July 25 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The organization, which touts itself as "the largest pageant system available to married women", was founded in 1986 to "publicly recognize and acknowledge the fact that married women often play many roles as wife, mother, homemaker and/or professional with a flair and resilience uncommonly found elsewhere."
