OPENING

Alright, who wants more dessert? That's right. GAM radio continues this week as Matsuura Aya joins Miki in the studio once again! It's been said that surgeons do not operate on their loved ones so emotions don't get in the way. We have a similar case here. With that said, Dr. K will now operate on Dr. H's loved one. Nurse Miki, scalpel onegaishimasu...*slice!*... Interesting. Nurse Aya, the forceps...

Hmm...it seems to be a letter of some sort. A letter addressed to Nurse Miki and Nurse Aya from Dr. H! That sneaky Welshman XD. Congratulations to H!P46 (aka MikiMania) for getting his letter read on DokiMiki Night! I should probably translate it and find out why the ladies are laughing at him.

Fujimoto-san, Matsuura-san, good evening! Greetings from Wales of the United Kingdom. Happy belated birthday (to Miki). I will also turn 22 soon, but these days I'm feeling old. I yearn for those fun times when I was a student. For that reason, I sometimes become a little sad. During such times, if I listen to songs by Fujimoto-san and Matsuura-san, I feel kigaru. So Fujimoto-san, Matsuura-san, do you have moments when you want to return to days of old? Also, what kinds of things do you do to cheer yourselves up?

Before the ladies respond, we have the usual commentary on this foreigner's Japanese usage. They are mainly focusing on one word: 気軽 kigaru. I believe H!P46 was using it to mean "cheerful". But this word kigaru conveys a more happy-go-lucky, carefree, laid-back kind of feeling. Actually, it's seems more like a personality trait than a feeling. Nice try H!, but the ladies still think it's cute. =P To answer the first question, Miki doesn't really have such moments (except when she wants to go to a time when humans didn't exist XD). Aya would back to junior high to study English properly. Miki never did like studying that much, which is why she is grateful to have a profession that doesn't require a lot of brainpower XD. As for the second question, when Miki feels really down, she finds solace in listening to sad songs. Aya would rather be alone to deal with her blues, and would prefer if a certain bosom buddy didn't call her at 4:00am to comfort her =P. Miki does it because she wants to. But at 4:00am?!?!

Both ladies say the title of the first song together. "LUTHLUANLUKS!". Wrong song, Aya =P. It's "LU LU LU".

QUIZ - DOKIMIKI QUESTION

It's a clean slate this week. Miki has zero gold stars and zero black stars. Not only that, she hands the deciphering duties over to Aya this time. A kindhearted gesture? Yes. A wise one? We shall see. Aya has nothing to lose as the star system only applies to Miki.

"Ushi, buta, hitsuji ga hyaku meetoru wo kyousou shimashita. Sate, katta no wa dare?"
A cow, a pig and a sheep ran a 100-metre race. Well then, who won?

Aya initially chooses the sheep because it's the fastest of the three. But it just doesn't work like that. There's always some hidden meaning. Funny enough, Miki realizes the answer almost immediately, but is unable to say it because this is Aya's problem to solve. Miki drops the hint "If this animal wins, it'll be delicious", and also rules out the cow, trying to steer Aya towards the correct answer. Aya selects the pig, and from this point, she has to explain her selection. Miki, acting mildly desperate, asks Aya what kind of pork dish it references. If you frequent Japanese restaurants often, you should know what this pork dish is. But right now, Aya is sooooooooo clueless XD. Shougayaki? No. Katsudon? Close. And TIME'S UP!

It is tonkatsu, or pork cutlet. The kanji for "pig" is 豚 which can be read as "buta" (KUN reading) or "ton" (ON reading). "Katsu" is a homonym in this case. It means "cutlet" (カツ) and also the verb "to win" (勝つ). So tonkatsu can refer to a pork cutlet or a pig winning something. Miki! Too bad you gave an easy question away. And now you have a black star. Live and learn. XD

GIMON! SHITSUMON! MIKITTY DA MON

This corner hasn't appeared since we started the summaries so a brief description is in order. Listeners going about their daily lives may come across something that makes them think "hmm... why is that so?" and unable to find an answer they can ask the font of knowledge and wisdom that is Miki. The title translates to "Problem! Question! As it's Mikitty..." implying that as it's Mikitty she knows the answer. After each explanation there's a Miki line to some fairy-tale music which means "*giggle* As I'm Mikitty I know everything!" but it's cute, not big-headed. =D

Firstly, Miki's asked to explain a Japanese idiom:
"Often when one is not feeling great someone will say 'the place where the insect is, is bad' right? (1) What on Earth kind of insect might this be and where the heck is it? And then why is it that that insect goes where it goes when someone's in a bad mood? As you're Mikitty, you know right? Please enlighten us."
Aya knows how to use the idiom but gets pulled off the high horse by Miki asking if she knows what the insect in question is. Miki tells her it's a caterpillar which gets the "this girl is crazy" type response from Aya. =D Miki then asks her where the caterpillar is. Aya's heard of vermifuge which constipated people use so she guesses the stomach where little worms grow so when they take the medicine the parasites are removed with bowel movements. DMN just got a whole lot less classy! XD Just as Aya explains that models do it, Miki tells her that's more to do with parasitic infections but Mr Caterpillar does live in the stomach, or at least in the belly region by the stomach. =D Miki explains that when someone feels bad, they grope their stomachs and Mr Caterpillar is surprised. =D Aya, clearly not impressed with the reasoning, suggests Miki goes for a brain scan! XD But when people get temperamental Mr Caterpillar falls from where he normally is and ends up in a bad place, even in Miki. =D Aya wants one thing cleared up though... she's adamant that Mr Caterpillar doesn't live inside Miki and the two have a brief square-up about it. =D Miki finally says that there's one in everyone but they're too small to notice. However, she has an understanding with hers so she can go about her life normally. =D Aya's not impressed! XD

Secondly is a question about Miki's split personality:
"Why is it that this Fujimoto Miki is usually a kind of stuck-up girl but when she's with that Matsuura Aya person she becomes someone else; someone who seems love-struck? What kind of magic is Matsuura-san using? As you're Mikitty, you know right? Please enlighten us." =D
Rather than answering it herself she devolves that responsibility to the girl who is actually using the magic; after all, if anyone, she'd know best! =D Aya simply says that she can't tell people what it is. =D Miki's endless wisdom leads her to believe that Aya's magic is the "Power of the Eldest Daughter" which they both think is extremely potent. With that sorted they turn their attention to Miki's other persona, the when-not-with-Aya one. Aya thinks that anyone who wants to devote themself to Miki will be unsuccessful (2). The type of person they're talking about is the kind who would say yes to anything she said and Miki conversely thinks she would actually like to meet someone who has her wrapped around their finger (what about sitting next to her in the studio?!). M'eh... we didn't get a specific answer as to what kind of magic Aya is using but at least now we know that she is using it. =D

Lastly is a question about a quirk of Japanese.
"What in the world is the difference between 愛 ai and 恋 koi (both are translated as 'love')? I have no idea what the difference is! Mikitty, who has sung plenty of songs about the two knows, right? Please enlighten us." (3)
Miki's wisdom tells us that koi is the love you dream about but ai is the love that exists in reality. Aya sounds unconvinced and Miki seems to want another go at defining it but Aya interrupts with her own, which is that koi is more euphoric. Miki's still pushing her dream/reality theory. =D Aya's ai is more of a serious thing to young people, those about their age but saying "aishiteru" (I love you) is still embarrassing. Aya starts to doubt what she just said but thinks ai is a mutual, two-way thing where each wants to dote on and protect the other. Miki is still unwavering on her definition. =D In sum, Miki says koi is enjoyable and, in response to Aya retorting rather boyishly that that suggest ai is not, says ai is painful as well as enjoyable. Aya's still not convinced but Miki puts her foot down and calls time on the discussion. That's how it stands for the record! XD Aya still isn't happy with it, and she's probably still thinking about Mr Caterpillar as well! XD

The second song of the show is inevitably GAM again. It's the officially website-sales limited support song for the worst baseball team in either of the J-leagues, XD "Daisuki Rakuten Eagles". At least they try their best...

SHIN - HAYAKUCHI JOOU MIKI-SAMA SANJOU!

Miki challenges Aya to beat her in the tongue twister contest. So Aya will not be immune to the punishment this time. Here we go.

mino no nomitoru minomonta
The one taking a drink wearing a straw raincoat, MinoMonta. (4)

Miki's attempt:
minononomitoruminomonta
minononomitoruminomonta
minononomitoruminomonta

Aya's attempt:
minononomitorumimo...

Miki the veteran storms out the gate and hurdles this one with ease. She is pumped, folks. Aya, on the other hand, can't make it any more clearer that she is a novice. She didn't even complete the line before sputtering to a halt. Welcome to Miki's turf. XD

tsuyayakana ayaya yaya hiyayaka
Beautiful Ayaya is a little coldhearted.

Miki's attempt:
tsuyayakanaayayayayahiyayaka
tsuyayakanaayayayayahiyayaka
tsuyayakanaayayayayahiyayaka

Aya's attempt:
tsuyayakanaayayayayahiyayaka
tsuyayakanaayayayayahiyayaka
tsuyayakanaayayayayahiyayaka

Another effortless success by Miki. Aya disputes that Miki slurred her speech and said "tsuyayaka ieya". Miki denies it, though she might have gotten away with it. =P Aya makes it through with no trouble as well. She's glad she didn't mess up her own name. :D Since, Miki has already cleared two tongue twisters, she is safe from the punishment speech. Aya still needs to get the last one though.

yamu ayaya yaya nayamu
Ailing Ayaya is a little worried.

Miki's attempt:
yamuayayayayanayamu
aiamu...

Aya's attempt:
yamuayayayayanayamu
namamuue...!!!

It doesn't matter for Miki. But Aya loses a second time, and will have to deliver the punishment speech.

Ayaya, who turned 20, has matching accessories and underwear with bosom buddy Mikitty. It's said that we enter the bath together. We also trip over tongue twisters! Bosom buddies...PUUU!!

Miki blushed at the lustful eyes Aya made during the last sentence XD. You'll have to listen to this part to really enjoy it. But now Aya is exhausted from all that cuteness, which bring us to the third and final GAM song of the night, "Family".

ENDING (5)

The girls shoot the breeze a little over their second week together on Doki Miki Night. As tongue twisters are Miki's forte it's no surprise that she triumphed. Miki enjoyed listening to Aya doing the punishment speech and Aya agrees although she didn't actually hear it. Miki thinks that it's something that Aya usually isn't uneasy about but it was embarrassing for her. Miki attributes it to her age. =D

Miki's news is the same as last week: Morning Musume Concert Tour 2007 Spring ~SEXY 8 BEAT~ will be stopping in Nagoya for a double header at the end of April. It's WelCity Nagoya first on April 22nd and then Nagoya Century Hall on April 30th.

As happened last week, Aya gives the GAM news which is firstly that she wants everyone to listen to their LU LU LU CDs so much that they wear out! =O Then it's another reminder of the GAM 1st Concert Tour 2007 Early Summer ~Great Aya & Miki~ kicking off in May and a passing reference to the album as Aya ponders whether they'll be able to sing the soul of their songs in the shows.

The OyasuMikitty request is for something "simple, but it's make a lot of listeners go 'dokimiki'." which turns out to be "*kiss* OyasuMikitty". Aya pulls off an amazing smooch sound which leaves Miki so impressed that she has to comment about it, drowning out the "OyasuAyaya". =D

First they encroach on t.A.T.u, now it's The Hershey Company! Chocorotic! =D

====================================================

(1) 虫 (mushi) means any sort of creepy crawly from insects to spiders to caterpillers to worms. Basically mostly invertebrates. 虫の居所が悪い (mushi no idokoro ga warui) is an idiom that means someone is in a bad mood, a bit like the English "face like thunder". The literal translation is in the main summary because the listener is asking Miki to explain how the idiom came about.

(2) 手のひらの上で転がす (te no hiru no ue de korogasu) literally means "roll on one's palm" but it's an idiom that, rather oddly, can either mean "under the thumb" or "free person". Wonderful... an idiom that means something and it's opposite! In this case it's the former.

(3) Not that we really expect anyone to be interested but H!P46 has often asked the question to himself in much the same way as a Mikitty da mon question. So much so that he started a blog here just so that he could post his version of events somewhere rather than having to link externally. If you're interested in reading a bit more about the (real) difference between 愛 and 恋 then click here. It's quite a long read...

(4) MinoMonta is the nickname of television presenter Minorikawa Norio. He hosts the Japanese version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

(5) As alluded to at the beginning, H!P46 also happened to score a DokiMiki Night clear file! When it arrives at your doorstep, WE WANT PICS!!
