I'm one of those people who want their idols "pure" but I don't have a problem with this kind of stuff it's quite funny actually. Them being pure defines in other things, at least to me.

This is more about H!P being excessively censored where girls turn left and right to see if managers approves of their every action, and not so much with "pure". You can be a "pure" idol and still actually have a personality.

Haha yeah, how dare Maachan improve the choreography with some of her own ideas or express herself individually.

It feels like there's such little raw talent in H!P recently :( Training can't get these girls to old H!P main vocal levels. You either have it or you don't. Sigh

CandyApple, in the entries before mine he said he wants his idols to be a pleasure to listen to live and that the balance between recordings and lives is too big. Considering he never went to even one concert and never got to see any of those girls live that's quite a bold statement. You can't imply they suck live when you didn't even see them live once. And no, videos on the Internet don't count.

I was watching a show on PBS that was filmed at an arts school of some sort where there were major talents and coaches/teachers there to evaluate the students (it ranged from gospel to pop to country). One of the judges/teachers said that nowadays, the voices reflect the type of music being produced. He said that he could hear the inflection of auto-tune in peoples voices. If girls are singing what they are hearing on the radio, then their voices will reflect that (without proper training).

Of course, there will be those just blow-you-out-of-the-water voices, but with what we hear from groups now, we may or may not get that quality again (unless they just listen to older artists). Coming from someone who likes good vocals, I think that the girls are doing fine and have nothing to complain about. And lives are great because sometimes you get a not so stellar performance, but that just let's you know that these girls are human.
